Not to diminish what this man has accomplised... but that's kind of slow given the amount of work that has been put into that car. With a decently slick car, especially one as massaged as this, one only needs around 480 hp to attain 200 mph. I wonder what's under the hood? It would still make a nice addition to any Fiero collection!!!

I'm sure some of us have gone faster then 150, but I fail to see why 60 mph more is such a challenge. Especially with a fairly aerodynamic car. Yes, I know about the rules about air drag and how it is exponential. But I was kinda hoping for something like 250-300 or so... Oh what the heck. Gimmie a allison turbine and a set of skinny's! Oh and a warber style hood to let the pressure out of the front end.

207 is really freeking fast for a basically stock bodied car. Do you realize that a Cessna 150 has a max speed of 122 MPH? This thing will outrun most airplanes!

i guess my question is....well...is that even really a fiero anymore? what they have done to it sure destroyed the essance of the fiero IE mid engine etc?....considering completely different driveline rear wheel drive now .....shrug..

Given the right gearing, I'm sure a few members of the forum would come close or better than 200. Tina comes to mind. With a front spoiler she could come close.

I've flown 150s. I'd be *nervous* doing 122 in one. I doubt I've ever gotten one to go faster than 105.

Is Tina's considered to be one of the fastest? What does she have in it?

Aerodynamics has a much larger role in top speed than you realize. Realize that the Space Shuttle can attain a speed of 17,500 miles per hour not just because of it's tremndous thrust, (it has a lot of that) but once it's outside of the atmosphere there is nothing to slow it down.
For example the ThrustSSC (which broke the sound barrier on land)was powered by a pair of Rolls-Royce jet engines producing 50,000 pounds of thrust and 110,000 horsepower.

My boss went to speed week and took a picture of that car for me. Ive got it sitting around here somewhere. He got to see it run the 207 and said that thing was wicked loud. He thought it had a corvette front end on it, but I told him it was just fiero fenders stretched. Pretty weird, but it sure would be fun to drive

Just my opinion, but that's a Fiero like John Forces Funny Car is a Mustang.
Having pushed 165 mph in mine with pedal left, I am of the opinion that a 'Stock Body' with a hot enough mid-engine, and correct ratio trans could beat his speed. Problem is that there isn't anybody crazy enough to make the attempt.

207 mph really dosen't seem that fast for that car. Like it was said, aerodynamics is everything. What class was he running? The speed may be lower because of class rules rather than car potential. I feel very confident that my IMSA could hit 207+. Some may argue, but I have an assruance by Paul Vanderley himself that (after inspecting my car) I should have no problem hitting 200mph. I can say this, 150mph comes really really fast! (and I still have 4th) For the math majors... 645hp at 2400lb (with me and a full tank of gas).
Let's just say I'm willing to try.

Paul, my money would be on you, you'd just need to skirt the front end and control rear end lift to get the job done!!! Are those race tires rated to 200 plus????

1. Lower the car as far as possible. 2. Front skirt and side skirts mounted to the frame. 3. Put in some poly windows. 4. Block off front brake air openings. 5. Raise the rear slightly. 6. CHECK THAT REAR WING! (If you loose rear down force, live would be bad and possibly over.)
Before I would try anything I would consult an expert. Paul Vanderley has been running the flats since 1954. I would consult with him. He still drives a '34 coupe at 260 mph and he is 69 years old! My motor was originally one of his personal 740hp Bonneville salt flat motors. Detuned to pump gas for me. Again, he assured me that 200 would be no problem. As for the tires, they are Hoosier R45 compound racing slicks. They would take the abuse.

R Runner I’m sure you could reach 207 as long as your gearing was right, I know you have the power. But I’m not sure about those wide tires. Most of the classes above 150 wont let you run anything wider then 10 inches, narrower is better on the salt. I think it would be a blast to try it. Driving a 200+mph LSR car has been one of my dreams for a long time, and will probably still be a dream a lot longer. I don't think a lot of people realize how hard it is to go that fast in any car, Going that fast requires a lot of power, I think about 550hp for a stock Fiero. Air resistance goes nuts with speed, increasing exponentially as the cube of the increase in speed. Air resistance over 130 mph becomes extreme Once you’re making a ton of power, you typically need to run hard for a relatively long time--minutes rather than seconds like a drag car. Mechanical parts flogged to the limit over the required 4-7 miles of super high speed running take a terrible pounding, and thermal loading can increase to fatal levels as the minutes tick by, don’t know if a gertag could handle that much abuse. Meltdowns are endemic to salt-flat racing. Maybe someday I get to try it, but probably not in my Fiero. And R Runner if I had the IMSA I would head to Utah sometime, just to try it once.

The gearing tells me 220mph at 7500rpm. I have plugged in all the frontal area data and such (rolling resistance, cd, ground clearence, etc.) to determine these numbers. The car feels so strong at 150, I can't believe that it would not get 200. I know there is a huge difference, but on paper, from an engineering standpoint, she should do it. I agree that it would be hard on the car.

My oldest Son has begged me for the keys a couple times............hasn't gotten them yet!!! The only real safe place to run this car out would be on a large oval track.
He's running in class A blown fuel modified sports 440-500ci. 264mph is the record for class A. I'd say his run is ok for 207.5mph, it puts him in the 200mph club and that's not bad if this is his first time out... So much more is needed from a car for every mph over 200, it's incredible. Have you been there? Elevation is completely different which affects engine tuning and everything.
My friend holds the record for class C/BMS at 243.970 with an MG. It's in this month's Super Rod.
