Just wondering in general, I see people posting about cars with rusted frames/trunk floors etc. Do Fiero frames rust any worse than any other cars of about the same age? Can you buy floor pans or frame components for them or does rusty frame=junk?
Thanks

people do get worked up about rusty frames, even tho it barely ever shows, plus rust is inevitable in some spots, rain and moisture is basically everywhere, so its bound to happen, the frame on my old parts car (once daily driver) i found out, is wicked rusty, but i dont realy care, its just when ur trunk falls out then u have a problem ~Mark

ive got a 87GT t-top here with a rusty frame, it all depends on the location of the car and how well it was cleaned after driving on salty roads, my t-top came from cleveland ohio, its got the upper left frame rail almost rusted in two pieces, and has a hole about 8 inches in diameter right beside the air cleaner assembly, it also has a hole or two rusted in the cradle, and the brake lines rusted to pieces.
So yes, some of them do rust away.

I just striped down an 84 2M4 parts car, Northeast daily driver of 215,000 miles. The trunk came out still atatched to the carpet, and after removing the rear paneling I was able to vacume up most of the frame off the garage floor. They certainly will rust if given the chance.

I will assume that from your username, you do not have a Fiero (or flunked your etest).
If you look at one and are interested, check the sides by the battery and in under the trunk carpet. These are usually good indications. If it seems rusty, have someone who knows Fieros look it over.
Rust can be fixed, but you need to figure how much it's going to take (and cost). There are still a fair number of decent ones around.
You are right, I am in the midst of hunting down my first Fiero, I am reading the forum here and researching a bit to find out what to expect. I don't have a lot to spend on the first one but I would like to get a solid car that can be improved over time. Where I live in Ontario the salt the heck out of the roads so I suspect rusty frames etc may be common to this area (although I don't know for sure)
Thanks

Here is a poor Fiero. This is where they often start rusting. This was a car we saw in Canada.
