on a guess and kind of assuming one thing was wrong and some other stuff just got changed...

ignition module (assuming a good deal on it)
some dielectric grease? (.99 cent guess)
some plugs?
the $16 i have no good guess. dist. cap and rotor? really cheap wire set? oil change and lube?

Broke down on the way to the dentist today.
Was able to limp it to the parking lot but could not get it to restart after my appointment.
Lucky for me there was an AutoZone across the street.
I pulled number one spark plug wire and tested for spark and didn’t have any.
(bit my tongue and told my wife to call for a ride home)
Walked to AutoZone
$26 - Ignition module
$0.99 - Philips screw driver
$6 - Cheap ratchet set for the trunk. ($1200 worth of tools do you no good if you leave them at home)
Installed the module and still didn’t have spark
Pulled the coil and had them test it. Primary was dead.
$16 for new coil
Couldn’t return the ignition module because I installed it and used the grease. (life time warrantee so it will be good for a spare)
Called wife and told here to stay home that I would be there in 30 minutes. She was already on her way back so I took her out to dinner with what money I had left in my pocket (McDonalds)
Drove home and it ran great.

Fiero gods always say carry small tool kit, module, coil with you at all times Saved me more than once. You can normally fix it yourself faster than a tow truck can get there anyway.

I almost always refuse to have my car towed. I have three coils in the back of my GT but didn’t have any in the SE. Didn’t have any spare Ignition module till today. I was all the way across town or I would have gone back home and picked up some tools and came back. I didn’t feel comfortable leaving my car there alone for more than a few minutes. On the upside my car is not stuttering anymore. If I can get it to idle I will be in great shape.

How can one keep $50 in the wallet if one has to spend it on car parts?

If the ignition module has a lifetime warranty leave it in and use the old one as a spare.

I always tell everybody that you shouldn't be driving a stock Fiero without an autoclub card and a cell phone.

Yeah, I've got a cheap ratchet set, a hydraulic jack and the stock scissor jack in my car at all times.

Unless I'm changing the tire I always use both jacks. The hydraulic under the side jack point to get it up quick and the scissor on the rear crossmember taking up some weight just in case the hydro jack shìts on me. (The car is like 4" off the ground. My melons diamater is bigger than 4". I don't want that baby crushed.)

Right now I've been replacing the water pump for like the past 3 days. I'd have it done now, but after a bit I get pissed and just walk away. (Biggest would be I ran into a stubborn nut on there and had to buy a 15" breaker bar for it. I got tired after that and havent gone back to the damn thing.)

Anybody have a nickname for their car? Mine cars name is the Black Beauty, but I call it the Lil' Bìtch almost all the time.

lol, mine is also referred to quite often as the "lil b*tch ". Usually during a repair. I tried to get a personalized plate with that on there, but of course the DMV wouldn't give it to me .

LOL! IMO, you shouldn't drive ANY car any kind of distance without at least a cellphone (and either an autoclub card or credit card). I bought a '99 Grand Am, so I'd have a reliable everyday car. I've had to replace the alternator, power steering pump, and water pump. It currently needs a driver's side power window regulator, HVAC ballast resistor and the driver's seat is collapsing. Yeah, let's hear it for new, reliable cars.

Thing is, I actually like the Grand Am. I just wish it was built better.

Good story. A year or so ago I bought a cheap tool kit from Kmart that has most the common tools needed. It's about the size of a note book computer and will fit easily behind the passenger seat. It's also real convenient to carry into those U-Pull-It yards when you don't really need anything but just "want to look" . I think the kit was on sale for like $10.

I've said this before, but what you should do is remove the hex-headed screws that hold the ignition module in and replace them with phillips screws.

Wait A Minute!!
This has to be a bunch of BS.
Are you saying there is actually something on a Fiero that can be repaired/replaced for $50 or less??
Wonder if my mechanic has heard of this?
What am I saying...I just got my last bill...I KNOW he hasn't heard about it.

With all the trials and tribulations my 85GT has put me through, I was thinking of naming it "Job's Revenge".
