Anyone know where I can find a GT fasback widebody? I know they exist because there is a pick of one on a fastback in pennock's forum under mods. It's a purple one at the bottom of the page labeled specifically "widebody". Any other info on this car would be awesome too as I totally love that car, especially the paint job. Mostly though I want to know where I can find a widebody like that for my fiero. Thanks for all replies.

Sorry, The company that sold the IMSA wide-body kit for the fastback body style closed it's doors last year. IRM was the company. Only the notchback base coupe body is available from another outfit in Canada.

IRM bought the original molds from Diversified Glass (who originally made the bodies for Pontiac's racing teams) IRM tried to sell off their business but could not find someone to pay the asking price.

Archie tried to work out a deal for all of IRM's molds but they could not come to an agreement. Archie's side scoop panels were simular to IRM's but not IRM's molds.

I'm not looking for the rocker panel scoops, if that's what were being talked about when side scoop panels were mentioned. A good example of what I'm talking about is what can be found at www.b-bspyder.com, except theirs is for the notchback. Notice how the wheel wells on the front and back both extend out further? That is what I mean when I say widebody.
If nobody produces any of these for a fastback, does anyone think they could do a custom job to do something like this or have any suggestions of who I could ask? And if so, any idea on a price range for something like this?

IRM's owner is still trying to sell the company, another forum member (unnamed) is trying to buy it, but the price is alittle steap i think, maybe the same problems archie was having. either way. ill let you guys know more when i do. all i can say is that i can build a house for the asking price. (not a big house, but a house none the less)

First off, the purple widebody you mentioned was a custom built one-off. The one in FL from BB Spyder started out that way... they just started offering kits late last year.

The IRM widebody that most people are referring to looks like this:

(Green Turbo 2.8, IRM Widebody GT, owned by Joe Burke)

...I really like it for the color too

You Bet! (although there was a terrible rumor that he was going to have the car painted a Mercedes Silver over this past winter!)

Joe- yes, you'll either have to find someone who is capable of doing that type of mod- or learn a bunch about fiberglass and try your hand at it! You'd need to find an extremely competent shop- and it will likely cost quite a bit!

You may want to consider contacting Pat Kalsmith and see what he'd say to that type of project... http://www.fibersmith.net (I believe he's in OK himself). It's worth asking!

You're best bet is to have molds made from an exisitng kit. I have a IRM IMSA whaletail on my GT, and had I known how many requests would be made in the future I would have purchased an extra one and made a mold. There is a PF member who was lucky enough to find an original non-completed IMSA Fiero. You may want to do a forum search, it's a good read along with pictures. Also, the IRM panels were the street version, the DG panels were held on with dzus fasteners, plus the wheel wheels were much larger, they probably are additional panel differences but the only way you'll be able to tell is by seeing a DG IMSA race version parked besided the IRM street version.
While some may consider it a rip off to produce the IRM versions panels, they have gone out of business, which leaves the door open to anyone who wants to replicate the panels. You're only other option is hoping someone wants to sell their widebody car.

DUDE< I was thinking about this the other day at work. Look at a Porsche 944 body. I thought of widening the front end of the car about 2"s on each side, give the rear of the fenders a vent for heat like the Dodge Viper, then customizing the rear to flare out like the porsche 944, then with some PISA GT Tail Lights, It would look like a Ferrari!

www.fierowarehouse.com bought all the IRM molds and will eventually be putting everything back into production, but they haven't gotten to the widebodies yet.

There is a kit for the fastback as well. If you look at the pictures you can see that one of the widebodies is a fastback. Look for the GT fastback taillights. On that particular one, Stefan used a Formula rear bumper. Bad angle for the pictures, but as always, more coming soon...

Not really - actually, not at all These IMSA widebody kits are based off the Huffaker racing cars, but due to the chassis & mounting differences (the racing ones mount directly to a tube chassis) they are not the same panels.

So, same general appearance - yes. Same mold & production part - nope (if I recall correctly, Paul Hosler only used two stock items on his race car... and one was the taillights).

While that might be over-simplifying a bit, that's the basic idea.

The wheels on that car are too small. He should throw some 18" Blitz wheel with some nice wide grippy tires.

*edit* the green one!

I will have to see if I can find my pics of Jonathan Watt's Northstar powered widebody...the original purple one in question. Jon was one of our members but we haven't seen or heard from him in years.
