that is not correct, the 1986 z24 had the high output 2.8L in it also, Im sure there were a couple others, like the citation x-11 (carbed high output 2.8L) i hear some of the pontiac 6000 STE's had high output 2.8L engines in them and some celebritys, but im unsure which ones,
other iron head 2.8L engines were out there, and very common, all RWD front engine vehicles would have to have the starter relocated to work in our cars, but all other Pre 86 2.8L engines are basically the same, the 80-early 85 had smaller crank journals i think, and most of them had low output heads making them only produce 120HP but for the most part they will all interchange with a simple High output head bolt on,
the older heads had smaller valves.
90% of all GM cars switched to alloy heads in 1987 (i sure wish the fiero would have) the alloy head engines had DIS ignition, and quicker throttle response, the heads had smaller chambers in them so in return the pistons were dished to compensate, therefore you cannot just put iron heads on them and fiero intake and be done with it, pistons would have to be changed, but otherwise the block is the same. This setup was used in the 2.8-3.1L alloy head engines 1987-1994 in 1995 the series III 3100 engines came out with even better alloy heads, the block still remained basically the same so im told, also some minivans had 3400 v6 engines and i think grand am GT's also.
im getting alittle too far into just talking about 60* v6 engines now, and way off topic,
im full of useless engine information.
