Okay, starting Sept 4, 2003 Los Angeles or Van Nuys county have a new law on the books: Any one caught racing, their car will be confiscated and sold. So in the future I"m decline all illigal street races and I'm taking the Northstar out and putting the 2.8 back-in.....darn it! he,he
Just kidding, but if your in southern CA, you better watchout for the cops. Last night (CA Bay area)one followed me as I was leaving from work. Btw I was going the speed limit (35)but he wasen't, he caught-up and from the rear of my car it looked like he was tempting me to race...I didn't bite after a few minutes he made a u-turn before running my plates. I dont have to worry about car-jacking, I get escourted by them at least twice a month. Oh yeah, they only try this when I'm in the Eclipse(work car) not the Choptop.
Shouldn't they (cops) be doing other things besides menacing law biding citizens? I mean like busting crack heads. What about the illegal aliens crssing the boarder becoming nannys and smacking kids on the head with wooden spoons for no apparent reason.
Oh...... wait a sec, You live in the Country of California... Nevermind.

Texas says: get caught street racing...go to jail, big fine, impound (loose) your car. So lighten up!!
I havent heard that law, but then again dont street race my 95 tahoe, lol.
sucks to hear that, but I guess I can understand why it would be a good idea. street racing is dangerous, its funf but there are too many idiots out there and too many people that just dont use common sense enough.
ah well, at least there are autocrosses and 1/4 mile tracks, street racers just need to use those more

When I had my 88 Mustang GT (which was sprayed and very loud) I got pulled over at 2:30 in the morning while with my two friends for "doing 45 in a 35." Well, I know I wasn't. Anyways, I didn't feel like arguing and all and it ended up that the cops searched the car. I know that I didn't have to let them but I didn't feel like sitting there letting them tell me all the stuff that I shouldn't be doing. The car wasn't legal anyways, and I knew it. I hate IL police and laws. They seriously have nothing better to do than harass people most of the time. When I do call them for something serious, they blow it off and don't do anything about it. And yes that has really happened to me. Anyways, the cops let me go with a warning to "watch my speed." When I had my 2000 Celica GT-S, I would ALWAYS get followed by cops. The Mustang was bad, but the Celica was a lot worse.

Revin, in Houston it goes something like this...
Get caught loitering in the Kmart parking lot where street racers were rumored to hang out, go to jail, impound car, pay big fine. So it could be worse
Started Sept 1st Texas Law. Get caught street racing it's a clas B misdomenor goto jail car get's impounded and passenger gets a big fine as well for observing. I'm not sure if anyone else has heard but in South Dallas there was a big operation to trick the smaller groups of racers into going to a larger area. They would drive a patrol car through and ake people leave the smaller areas and hoped they would all migrate south. Well it worked and they ended up with over 200 racers in one area. they blocked off the exits and everyone got ticketed. Even had a chopper to boot. If I find the article I'll post a link to it.
Also rumor has it that Dallas has some un marked cars that they will try to trick you with into a race. I know for a fact that Summerville county TX uses two Ford Escorts to patrol with on HyWy 67. I've been nailed by this one, he even searched my vehicle and tried to get me for my perscription drugs for anti infection and alcohol which was soured tea from the morning that had been in my vehicle all day in over 100*. He told me to drink it after he smelled it. I opened it and showed him how syrupy it was. Sorry about getting off topic but watch out for the tricks.
I agree with the law, there are "safe places" to race and it does not cost all that much to race at a track. I question the police for "menacing" the general public if they happen to have a "fast looking car" and are just driving home or out for a "sunday drive" on monday evening.

I'm Sherriff John Bunnell. In case you didnt' know street racing is not only dangerous, but it is also ILLEGAL. Street racing endageres the lives of innocent civilians so you can have a few cheap thrills with no regard to human safety. And most of the time the racers are high on crystal meth.
Continue to street race and the only place you'll end up racing to is your local county jail.

Who's but did you pull that out of?!?!
I agree with everything else you said, but come on... That's just ridiculous. If anything, most street racers are addicted to adrenaline and do it for the rush.
Luckily the Bakersfield PD does periodic legal drag nights out at Fomosa dragway... If you need to race, that is the place to do it. That's why I don't worry that my cars are stock 2.8s. I have no intention of racing anyway. I did all that crazy stuff when I was a kid. I've had 43 tickets since I was 16! None in years though.. I learned my lesson and lived through it amazingly.
most of the racers are high on crystal meth ????? sorry but if thats what you think then i think you are smoking something illegal actuall most of the guys i know go out to mission raceway park and do the street legal drags . see the trick is not to break the street racers balls what people should do is make a proper legal place to drag . but what the hell do i know .. just my two cents

Think about it, you have to be high on some thing to like the "Fast and Furious" movies. LOL He may be talking about the ones that get busted or cause crashes. You cant know what the ones that get away are doing? BTW the cops know how to get people that are breaking the law, they dont need to use tricks and I dont belive they do use tricks. It is against the law for the cops to trick people into breaking the law. They can set up shop and wait for the law breaker to come in. A sting is not a trick, it is a tool. If you race then you pay. As far as following people, gess what, thats life. Dont break the law dont worry about who is behind you. I want the cops to follow people that are breaking the law. And if that means that they follow some one for a few miles because they "look" suspisious then so be it. How else do you think the cops catch the bad guys? They dont have to wait tell some one gets killed before they take action. If cops bother you that much get out of the USA and start a new and better "cop free" life. Yes I do have a bias towards cops and against bad guys. I like the new laws that take cars from law breakers and sell them. I would like a new Vette, Cheap! LOL.

If you are a true "John Bunnell" fan you would know that is "A-Typical" old cop bias directed at the law breaking dirt bags that are his "obsession". Thats why I don't watch cop shows anymore, there is way to much "BS" being interprited by the show host. Ever notice that you will catch the same event on 3 different programs and each one is a different take, as if it were staged for each show exclusivly.
But if this is indeed the real McCoy and John Bunnell drives a fiero, I'd like to see some pics with him standing next to his (fiero) ride with a Multnomah County cruiser off to the side. Put up or shadup, Even I can afford a digital camera.
Good impression but I'll eat my words if I am wrong.

With a E-mail like this(jmccreery@buddssubaru.com ) I dought it is him.
Yes it has, and Archie can vouch for this....but the morning I took possession of the Great Blue Chop Top, and within about the first 3-4 miles I put on the car, I was PULLED over. Officer said I was driving erratically and following too close to the car in front of me. I admit to driving RADICALLY (such a kick ass car) and following Archie's truck out of town so I wouldn't get lost. I think the cops recognized the car (just a few miles from Archie's shop) and the just wanted a closer look. Interestingly enough, that was the only time I was ever pulled over in that car.....even though I had my fair share of high speed street races. (of which I never lost one).

Continue to drink & drive and the only place you'll end up is right back on the street with a DUI on your record and the keys in your hand.
Give me a break, the only crime in America is getting caught.

You can outrun the car, but you can't outrun the radio. Especially with the eye-in-the-sky.
As for drag racing, There are over 120 drag strips that over the years have been closed. Most of the drag strips are phsically still there. I think it would be safer for the state/city/etc to open these up and run them. All they need to do is hire a few people to monitor it and charge a fee. At least with less cars racing on the streets, less injuries and deaths will occur.

This sounds good in theory, but I doubt very much that it would help. I am fortunate enough to have Sears Point (Infineon Raceway) close by and we still have people "street racing".
Now grant it... It's not "Fast and Furious" type of racing, but then again we have never had that type of problem that I am aware of.
I think part of the issue is... some people like the thrill of racing on the open streets. I really don't think they think twice about the safety side of things. Then again, some of the cars I have seen on the roads would never pass the tech inpsection at the track.

going to take my car away and sell it? good luck. Can your impala run 10's beoych? Peace out!!!
Yah- My buddy and I were just discussing this (how fast cop cruisers are), and the fastest was like 14.5 or something.
Heheheheh! :P Damn, my T-25 can spool enough to keep ahead of the popo's!

I agree about the radio, but the average police helicopter, which is usually a Jetranger or an A-star/Twinstar can only go so fast. A Jetranger's top cruise speed is about 110 knots, while an A-star's is about 130 knots. So some of these heavily modded fieros could easily outrun the choppers, but like you said, they cant outrun that radio!!

eye in the sky in b1tchita? hahaha. It would take them 30 minutes to find someone to fly the thing, then actually get it in the air. By that time I would be long gone. As for radios, how are they going to report my location when they lose visual in 7 seconds?

Nothing like living in our so called Land of the Free (Police State). My son got pulled over going to the store in the 88 Formula 4.9. It was around midnight the car is not real quite but not real loud. Anyway he was given a ticket for "Exceeding the Speed Limit" no estimated speed. We are taking this one to court. The cop was in a Bowling Alley parking lot with another cop waiting on a tow truck to tow away some other poor unforunate they had stopped. While he was waiting for the cop to write the ticket the tow truck pulled up and was going to tow him away. Forunatly the cop did'nt let that happen.

A friend of mine regularly outruns the cops. He recently did it in a beat up 85SE. If it's on the freeway, he normally runs ahead, exits, then finds a shopping center and chills out for a while.
He used to make a 50 mile run to my house in around 25 minutes.
