IMHO No. You are replacing a excellent cold air induction system with one that sucks hot air. Plus metal is the worst material to use since it absorbs heat very easily. If you use metal wrap it to protect if from heat. You would be better off replacing the stock air filter with a K&N filter.

Isn't there a mod that lets more air into the unit by removing some rubber part? I have read something about it but does it work?

There is a water separator in the airbox behind the fender. Some believe this helps if remove. I again doubt it but it certainly would not hurt to remove it.

I believe they call it a water seperator for a reason...to keep water from getting into the intake system. Although you would probably have to do some serious mud boggin' to suck any measurable amount into the intake. I wouldn't remove it if you drive in very wet conditions just to be safe. Like skitime said, it probably wouldn't make any real measurable HP difference removing it anyway.

Shaun41178 had his system Dynoed..I think I was one of the first to do it around 6 years ago..

In anycase..

4 more HP @ the wheels... 8 less Ft Lbs of Torque..

Your decision..

IMHO.. sounds good , filter lasts longer..but no real unbelievable power gains. Money better spent other places
