OK< first I have to say sorry for posting this, but it made me think, on ebay a while back I was searching for bikes, still a big bike fan and saw motorcycle engines for sale from wrecked bikes with 4000km on them etc. They had Yamaha R6 and even a suzuki gsx-r1000 engine for cheap. The thing that grabbed my attention was that it said complete for car installation?????!!!! I know motorcycle engines don't have the most power, but you can beef them up too. A stock gsx-r engine, 1000cc, is about 140hp and only 80lbs of torque, yet, it screams to about 13,500rpm, while the 600cc yamaha R6 screams to 15,500 at about 105hp and a little less torque. Can you imagine one of these engines turbocharged in the fiero, hell people are putting them in honda's and such? Again sorry, my mind was just wondering.

HP is not everything...Torque is what moves a car and gives good 0-60mph times. At 80-90 ft-lbs of torque you would never be able to get the car off of a hill. That's why large trucks, trains, make tons of torque because they pull a heavy load. Caddy engines are the same. Motorcycles dont need that much torque since the weight is much less. Think of using it in a go-cart you would be okay.

i would hav to say is [not a chance in hell]..it is a good idea but not in the fiero..my fiero weights in ay 1200 or so kg or 2700lbs,,to little but what i will say is this,,there r kitcars made for that the first is the riot and second is McLela both cars weight in at 1200lbs or so..very lite great to drop in a 1300powerhouse engine that thing would scary like no tomorrow..i myself r still thinking about...
I was actually joking with someone about this at the 20th! How about taking it one step further and running a pair of cycle engines (one for each rear wheel) and just matching the throttle and shift linkages...?
I'd never do it myself, but it might be fun - especially for someone who might be building an SCCA or IT racer!
Yeah, I wouldn't do it myself, but it made me think it would sure as hell rev to the moon. Possibly one in the front, one in the back, two of these engines would still weigh less than one 2.8, put out (both engines) 160 tq, and 280hp stock, turbocharge those two engines and you'd have about 400hp and 300tq all at 15,000 rpm, yaaah! However too much work, and only in a perfect world.

That's a sweet design! Very 80s, but I still like it very much. Interesting about the Kawasaki engines being difficult to "drive" - I wonder what that means exactly?

A guy I know put a Hayabuza engine in a Smart (city car). He raced against a pretty beefed up BMW M5 and smoked him good! I won't even take a shot at him with any of my cars since I can't stand the humiliaion of loosing to THAT ugly thing!

I'd love to see pictures of that!!!!!!! I like the smart cars in general, but a FAST smart car would be awesome. Talk about a sleeper.
I always liked the suzuki swifts too, 4cyl cars with engines that weigh 180lbs, some were even 3cyl, but they were about 100hp and 80tq, and weighed about 1000 less than the fiero, a think a high milage swift would be a good candidate for a hayalbusa engine (1300cc I believe and 160hp?)

A 13,500 redline would be nice, but you'd need a transmission that wouldn't supernova past 8,000. <G>
