Has anyone tried that R-12 Freeze, R-12 feron substitute?? They claim you can just add it to the R-12 system?

Many of the R-12 subsititues are mainly R-134a so you may want to consider a total conversion. I used to be a die hard R-12 proponent until the price went through the roof. I reluctantly began doing R-134a conversions and the results were excellent. I'm not against R-12 subsitutes but would like to know what they contain before I put them in my A/C system. Some of these R-12 substitutes even contain highly flamable butane.

What is involved with the conversion? I have a new compressor that I need to install. Is there anything else that I should consider?

I have heard that you should have the system vacuumed before you add the new stuff.

I had Proud-1 professionally converted to R-134a, new compressor, drier, flushed...and refilled, for about $1400. It still leaks, had to be refilled three times in one year and cools okay.

For Proud-2 I bought the $30 Interdynamics kit from Autozone and just shot it in. I have had to refill it three times in one year and it cools okay.

Moral of the story, if your A/C needs conversion, try the $30 kit, you have nothing to lose.

If you find my advice useful, then please give me a positive rating, thanks...

I have never heard of a converted system working nearly as good as a designed system. SO I will only stay with the r-12.

I'm telling you that my converted system works about as good as it ever did with R-12. I get air outlet temps at about 45F when the exterior temp is about 94F and RH about 90%. And so what if it leaks, at $5 a can I can afford to consider it a consumable.
