Found another one in a yard. Pretty picked over.

Now I have the shift bezel.

1G2PE11RO206659 Black base coupe, L4 5spd, manual windows, manual locks, manual mirrors. Grey interior. 101270.3 miles, not wrecked, so was either a trade in or blown motor. It may have had a sunroof, I'll go back and look if you want me to. I just don't remember looking.

The car is in the VIN list I gave you a while back, at that time it was registered and apparently being driven.

Did you get the rest of that info on the yellow '88 I posted recently?

Hey Jazzman,

Thanks for the info on the black coupe. I'll change it's status to DEAD and update the database. Don't worry about the roof, nice to know but certainly not worth you going back there to get it. You mean to say all you got off it was the shift bezel? I'll bet some happy character made off with those hardly used front wheel bearings.
I saw the post about the yellow one, thanks for that as well. With the VINs from the swapmeet, and recent postings here on Pennocks, and submissions from other people we've got nearly 3460 cars in the database now, just a bit over 13% of them.

Many thanks for your help, past and present.
Take Care,

John

I did get your info on the yellow coupe.

It's pretty picked over. The radio bezel was broken in half. The complete left front suspension is gone. The rear lateral links and tracking rods are gone. The interior is either gone or damaged beyond repair. I may go back for the right front bearing Monday. Both ashtrays as well as the flip doors were already gone. The shift bezel is in fair, not good condition, with some staining and minor cigarette burns in the ashtray area, but heck, it's the best I can afford since I spent a whole $5 on it. Good ones are apparently made of solid gold and irridium, so I won't be getting a nice one any time soon.

I understand about the shift bezel, for some reason nearly all of the in the Atlanta area junkyards seem to be trashed. I strongly suspect some of this is due to yard guys tearing them off (literally) to scoop out the change down there.

Say, there is one more thing you can look for, if you do go back. I can't remember if I talked to you about this at the swapmeet, but I'm also interested in the date on the little paper sticker which is (or was) stuck to the ALDL connector. I've sort of been tracking that info and if you are going back, I'd be grateful if you could check on that too. Don't know what the date means, could be build week for the wiring harness, car, or ? Anyway, more info is a good thing, so can't hurt to track this too, in the hopes that it will be useful later.

Good Luck,

John

I forgot to do that, didn't I? I do know about your project to see if there's a date correlation, it just slipped my mind. I'll see what I can get from the black and the yellow one on Monday.

BTW, email me privately at mailto:jsavage@airmail.net and I'll get you my list of personal '88s.
