I am in the market for another vehicle..........Haven't decided if I am going to keep the GT or sell it.
I have been looking for a 2nd Gen MR2 Turbo but so far no luck. However I have found several Mitsubishi 3000gt VR4s on the market and was wondering what everyone thought of both vehicles and which I should purchase!
BTW does anyone have the performance specs for both vehicles?

No, but I know both are better than a stock V6 fiero. I know both will be more expensive to maintain and in the case of the 3000GT probably much more expensive to insure.

I bought a 3000GT six months ago and HATED it. Sure it was fast and handled well but I just couldn't get used to the BIG car feel. It also had Zero roadfeel. It felt like I was playing a Video game and not real life.

Hope you know what I mean.

Also they cost a bit more than a Fiero.

Nice cars (In alot of ways better than fieros) but I like my fieros at the end of the day.

I sold it and put the money into Suspension and a High revving V8 project. In the end I'm sure I will KILL any MR2/3000GT that costs as much as I have in my fiero. 5,000 sofar (Total with car) and I have a 400hp 7500rpm EFI SBC that should get 25+mpg when it's done. I'm sure it will pull over 1g on the skidpad and I can actually fit in it:P

In the end the 3000GT and MR2 are GREAT cars just not for me.

I have a '92 Dodge Stealth R/T(not turbo'd), same car as the 3000GT. I have owned it for 6 years now,it has 109,000 miles on it. I love it, I have owned a corvette, two Trans Am's, Two '85 442's and other sports cars. Best handling car I have owned, only thing I don't like is the peice of repair parts. You can't buy front ball joints, have to buy the whole arm from the dealer $480.00 ea. Power steering pump went out on me. I call the dealer $800.00. I got mad and stuffed the car in the garage, two weeks later I took off the pump and took it apart. the shaft nearing had gone bad, cost me $8.00 for a new bearing, I've been driving on my rebuild for 3 years now. Also I've started stocking up of used replacement parts from ebay, much cheaper then new, picked up a power steeering pump for $26.00, an alternator for $36.00

I love the car, won't sell it ever....

I'd go for the MR2 turbo. I drove one of those things back in 1990 right after buying my '88 GT and loved it. The only problem I had with it back then was the $20,000 sticker price! Which is why I kept the Fiero!

The pluses are obvious.....200 HP, mid-engine, etc. The downside is higher mileage ones will likely need a new turbo and they're more expensive to repair than Fiero (generally speaking). Another downside is most have been modified or had the living piss beat out of them. Try to find a lowermileage "virgin" one owned by a little old man who never went above 50MPH (yeah, right ).

I would look for a '94 or '95 model......they're aren't a lot of '95's out there though. I believe they imported less than 300 that year (the last year they came to America).

Another plus teh MR2 has over the 3000 is weight. The 3000 GT is a porker.....If I remember correctly the all-wheel drive (VR-4) is pushing 4000 pounds! Even though it has 300 or so horsepower it still won;t handle as good as the MR2. The MR2 is about the same weight as a Fiero, but with more power, so it'll be more fun to drive and toss around (IMHO).

Good luck with whatever you choose.

I think the MR2 will be fun but (1) every Toyota I've ever been in has had a TON of road noise and (2) no one could EVER correctly fix the Supra I had, including the dealers (always had to go back a few times until they got it right).

The VR4 would probably also be a lot of fun to scoot around in, especially with the 4 wheel drive (and 4-wheel steering?).

I don't know how you feel about Fords, but I just got a 2003 Mustang GT convertible (5 speed) and it ROCKS (and draws girls like ants to a LifeSaver)

I'm gonna go against the grain here, I guess. In MY opinion, there has not been a better LOOKING car to come out of Japan than the late model 3000GT. It LOOKS intimidating. Hands down, my favorite non-European car.

While the MR2 is sweet looking, to me it just screams GIRL. That's probably just me cause I've only known one male that owned one, the rest were girs. The guy who did own one wanted to sell it to me because of problems he has had with hydroplaning. VR4 would probably handle a lot better in the wet.

I'd go with the 3000GT, but that's just me.

Well when I bought my '86 SE in 94 I found a bunch of service records in the center console from the previous owner and his other car, no idea why he had them all stuffed in there but they were for a Mits 3000GT. All I can say is what a LEMON! I couldnt belive all the crap that had gone wrong with that car already for being like 3 years old. Everything from clutch problems, leaky seals, faulty switchs and lights, the list went on. I called the previous owner and asked if he wanted the records back, he said no he just traded it in on a new LT1 Z28

Personally, the MR2, hands down. I just love mid-engine rear wheel drive sub-compact 2 seaters I can't stand driving big cars.

Also I think '93 was when they improved the suspension.

Have you checked http://www.mr2.com/ yet? Lots of good info.
