For anyone running the SPEC clutch in their V8 cars, How well is it holding, and How many miles so far? Or any other comments about the clutch.

THanks
Joe

well, I dont have a v8 or a spec clutch in my car, but from they way they look (appearance wise) they've got to be better than the Centerforce clutch! They look so much more "beefy"!

Im sure youd be happy if you bought one, plus they have better prices.

Sorry, didn't see the thread until now.

I have put about 600 miles on my Spec Stage III clutch. I love it! Simple install, doesn't slip, stock pedal feel, doesn't slip, quickly engages between shifts, doesn't slip, and did I mention it doesn't slip!

I only have 600 miles so far so give me another month of drag racing and street driving and I'll let you know how it is holding up, so far so good!

It is a little difficult to start out in first. If you try and engage first like a stock Fiero, it will chatter on the engagement. But if you keep the revs around 2100 RPM and let it out it will not chatter. I spoke with SPEC about this and they have assured me that this is fine for their clutch. Its just different at first, but I am so used to it now its not even an issue.

I am very pleased with the clutch, I even installed one in my Talon.

Jimmy,
thanks, thats what I want to hear. But you didnt answer my main question. Did it slip?

which disk did you get? Didnt they switch from a 4 puck to a 6 puck design?

I have the older 4 puck Stage III clutch. 4 puck allows quicker shifts/engagement, but isn't as smooth as the the 6 puck. I believe the 4 puck in theory can hold a little more torque then a 6 puck but SPEC says there isn't any appreciable difference between the two.

Joe,
I talked to Chuck with the red LT1 at Archies open house about clutches. He has a Centerforce and has to go easy on it when traction is high etc. I then asked if he was going to give the SPEC clutch a try. He said that he wasn't impressed with the SPEC clutch because he drove Crazy Daves car and actually got it to slip.

I would like to hear what Dave has to say about it but he hasn't really been around much lately.

I'm putting a Stage 0 clutch on my V6 but i'm sure you really arn't to concerned about that
