I saw this on ebay, and was just curious, physically it looks allot like the Fiero trans. I know it has a different bolt pattern. A focus is pretty small. And probably doesn't put out much torque. I not that familiar with fords. Does the special vehicle team mean it is beefed up???? Guessing by the starter layout it must be from an inline engine right???? I am not really that serious about this, but I wondered what others thought. What the top gear is and such... I must be bored LOL

The focus SVT is ford's Top of the line focus. This tranny was mounted too their DOHC Duratec 4 cyl that in this model puts out something like 145 ft-lbs of torque. This tranny is prolly a few rated a few ft-lbs over that(speculation). The SVT is sorta "boy racer's" car so I wouldn't be surprised if ford/gettrag made this transmission pretty stout to hold up to the lead foot of these people. Just my $.02

SVT is where ford puts their good engineers . Seriously they are responsible for the Ford Lightning, the new Ford GT, Cobra Mustang, etc.

It would be interesting to use this tranny in a fiero swap, the only problem is they prolly cost and arm and the leg, plus you would either have to make an adapter or use the ford engine.

I remember reading in the a review that this tranny's gears were pretty tall.

Hell, it's work to shift my 5spd fast enough (first through third), and it will clock over 165mph. I can't imagine the 6 spd doing you any good except loosing more time due to another required shift. Download sound file by my signature, mid point on soundtrack is a 0 to 75 mph run that really wasn't an "all out" blast.

The adapter plate doesn't scare me... I have done it before and could do it again. I guess it all depends on how the gears are laid out. Being a four cylinder first is probably useless. I was just wondering being a 2002. The mid 80's cars were designed for the 55 mph national speed limit. First is practically useless on my five speed. I can start in second with no problem. I am sure there would be CV joint and other issues. I was just wondering

How about the New Ventures 5-speed in the Neon SRT-4? It's rated at about 250ft-lb, so the tranny has to be at least that strong, probably 300+ for the tranny to make sure it holds up well. New Ventures is basically Getrag in the U.S. no; a new company building them or selling them. Might be something to check out. It's probably the strongest FWD manual transaxle available right now.

This is something I've considered a few times as well, with either a Q4 or ShortStar engine.

Ford/SVT, Pontiac/Toyota, VW, Hyundai and Nissan would be the first choices for FWD 6 speeds, and of those I would think VW or Nissan would make the most stout tranny.

Something else to consider is what kind of LSD or preferably Torque-biasing Diff comes in them or is available for them, and I don't have that info currently.

Dunno how any of these would work on an LS1, but for a 4 or 6, I think they'd be great. For that matter, most of the engines attatched to those 6sp's are quite capable in their own right, if someone wanted to do a complete hybrid swap. I think a 230+hp all-aluminum 24V DOHC VR6 on a 6sp (stock VW) would be killer in a lightweight Coupe. Supercharge that to 320+hp, and LOOK OUT!

Ahhh...if money grew on trees.

It would probably be easier to just make a bellhousing adapter. And road tests typically show that a 6-speed is not faster than a comprable 5-speed. Many times they are slower because you're shifting more often. About all they offer is an extra economy gear at best.

I wouldn't be interested in a tranny that comes with an engine less than 200-250HP. If it's much under 200HP, it's doubtful it's any stronger than a HM282 Getrag, so why bother switching?

The new neon SRT has a NVG T850 transaxle, according to new venture it is rated at 250ft.-lbs. of torque. http://www.newventuregear.com/transaxles.html Dodge says it’s coming with 245 torque from the factory I’m sure someone will have a few bolt on parts and be pumping out 300 real soon. We’ll see how well it holds up to that.

It would definitely put the starter in a weird place, about 180 degrees off of where it usually is in a Fiero. Maybe a good thing for an LS1? The starter is quite a pain on that engine.

It sure looks nice, but I'm not ready to hand over my 282 for a six-speed yet. The 6th gear on the current transaxles isn't really as much of an economy gear as it is in the B-W T56 anyway, which is what it would take for me to switch (0.50:1 w/3.42:1 final). They're usually in the .70's with shorter finals.

It would matter for the 2.5 and 2.8, but for the SBC and ls1 it doesn't make a difference where that bulge is for the starter. My ring gear is forward of the trans. How do those ratios compare to the 282? I definitely wouldn't want a shorter final drive. Like I said I am not all that serious. I just saw it on ebay, and got to thinking.

Ew, bad news. That totally defeats the point of having a sixth cog. The 3.1:1 final in sixth is as low as that transaxle's gearing goes. Yet our Getrag's fifth gear, if I recall at 0.72 x 3.61, is 2.59.

Thank you, next!

Dave
