My oldest son is very proud of his creation.

My guess is that boyscout thing where they build the racers. Nice Fiero replica!
Do I get a prize?

That's awesome! Mine always ended up as either a block, with the corners sanded down, or a wedge with the corners sanded down.

Hey, if you tilt one of the axles a little, the car will have less rolling resistance (since it would be on 3 wheels instead of four). Sometimes that would allow my rounded block to be a bit competitive. Most of the time, not.

Yep it's a pinewood derby car. We just got back and he took second place out a total of 48 Scouts in his pack. He won first place for most sporty design.

Now did good old dad help. Just a bit, he did most of the work. We bought a speed kit about 4 years ago to sand the axles and wheels, then lube them with graphite. He spent alot of time on the wheels getting them just right.

He did good and I have to say I'm very proud of him.

Thanks everyone for the compliments. We allow the kids to use graphite or any "dry" lubricant since the District here in St. Louis allows it.

Heres a couple more pics.

Notice the Supercharger on back, Hmmmm thats my boy. The reddish lights on the back are also wieghts as is the S/C and the exhaust pipes. When he finihed the car it wieghed 4.6oz, so we added wieght so it would wiegh exactly 5.0oz which is the limit.

Heres a pic of his car with his trophies.

Heres one with me and the three winners in his den for 2003. The middle one is my son. We give each Den or Age group trophies for 1st,2nd,3rd place for racing. Then we have a overall Pack champion. We also give 1st, 2nd, 3rd place trophies for best Patriotic car, original, Sporty, and Scout Colors. Everyone who doesn't win a trophy for one of those catagories gets a Participation trophy.

We are very casual on race day. We do a big lunch with a different theme each year. This year was Mexican, so we got to sample all kinds of Mexican and Tex Mex foods.

I miss those days... We called it the "Kub Kar Rally". Two of my cars made it to the provincials, but I never had one look as nice as your son's. Congrats.

If he's interested, I'll race him for pink slips. Let me know.
