I noticed while installing the scoops that they cover up about half of the intake pipe thingy. Will this hurt performance?

I doubt that it'll have any noticable change in performance (I certainly haven't noticed any change). If anything it may increase air flow due to your removal of the "water separator" airbox assembly.

In the long run I'm planning on installing a "Cold Air Intake" style pipe & filter (buy one for a CRX, it'll fit nicely) and that will certainly eliminate any issuses of air flow from the scoop area.

Well,, It should increase performance, since you are adding more air to the intake. I have the IRMS on my car,, I can tell you that the perforamnce since getting more air in the intake is greatly improved. I also have noticed that the engine temp stays around 145 degrees.. What a big diff thsi makes in making the car perform top end..

Ron, are you talking engine temp, or engine compartment temp? 145 is WAY too low for the engine...it won't go into closed loop. Seems like it's 160 or 165 at which the ECM switches over to closed loop, and uses the inputs from the sensors to adjust A/F ratio, timing, etc. Before then, I believe it's running on preprogrammed perameters, which aren't set up for optimal performance. Also, the engine isn't heating properly, in which case the internal parts aren't expanding as they should, and you'll have poor ring sealing, etc. Of course, I COULD be wrong...

Compartment is at 145... engine remains at 170.

Hope that clears it up

Ducting directly to the scoops and removing the water seperator should increase performance. Ducting to the scoop on the other side into the engine bay should also increase efficiency by keeping the engine bay cooler.

Slowly. I have had my blanks with the fireglass guy now for several weeks and no progress. I need them to continue the project. Starting to look like time to find a new glass guy but they are few and far between. I really don't want to have to do the final production myself.
