I have always wondered if an in-dash flip up dvd player would work and not hit the shifter when the motor is working and the screen is coming out and flipping up? Anyone ever had one in a Fiero? I was just curious and was too lazy to go look how much space there is between the manual and the cd player area. Was just curious as I might want one down the road. Thanks for any help. Pics would be great too.

Worked on a 92 Vette that had an Alpine flippy screen thingy. You had to be in "D"atta way for it to clear (and even then it was JUST making it!).

I think as long as you weren't in 1,3,5 it might work.

Too bad the cd player area isn't higher than the shifter console. Oh well it was designed back in 88 and not intended for the new age stuff I guess. Thanks anyone else?

You can still get an in dash DVD with detachable screen and remotely mount the screen elsewhere. They are a lot cheaper anyway.

if you've got a broken console skeleton around you can play with rearanging the console. mine is all torn up from when i got it (either the car was wrecked and this wasn't repaired or a theft before i got it) and then messed up more when the stereo i put in was stolen. my heater controls lay in the bottom of the area. once i saw that it'll sit down there and work (cable dosen't bind and it looks like all wires reach easy) i've been playing with a metra kit, epoxy, some lexan (some sticky old bubble gum and a shoe string. what ever works) to swap the radio and heater positions.

looks like it will work but i'm not done to garantee it. i'm also not fooling with a screen but i think it might be high enough to clear the shift knob if i were. anyway, something to consider.
