Since we have V6 vs V8 and N* V8 vs SBC here, I figured we could start a TDC vs a pushrod fight.

How about 90 Deg vs 60 Deg?

TDC means "Twin Dual Cam" which is what the engine was called when it was released (3.4 TDC). Also, it would be a DOHC (DUAL OHC), not a single OHC. The later models were called the 3.4 DOHC.

So do I come here, to fight with the DOHCer's, or side with the V8 guys, or the few Northstar drivers here?

I know, I'll be on MY side!

you mean there is something other than overhead cam, jeez, sounds like steeping backwords to me

hehe, j/k - we got to get more bickering going other than 8 vs. 6

OK, I'll join in the fun.

3.4L TDC
210hp/215torque

Oreif's 3.4L pushrod with carb:
220hp/230 torque (estimated)

Heeheh Thats a nice one, but your engine is moded to the max and the DOHC is factory. BTW the 96-up do 220/220 just 10 more ponnies but are stock.

There is a forum member that make a custom intake and put him in 240hp at the wheels and that will be 270~288@flywheel and have more room to improve. Also 7000rpm stock is a nice screamer, imagine some improved valve train.. 8000-9000 rpms!! woohoo

It's not modded anywhere near the max.
(A fully modded 3.4 with a .520 lift cam and 10.5:1 compression was dyno'd at 310hp with a 500cfm 4-bbl carb. I have the link at work for the engine build-up and the dyno. It is in a 1994 Camaro, I'll post it Monday night) Mine is basically a little head work, a performance cam and a Carb. My redline is 6500 rpm. Imagine the sound of 6500 thru a 4-bbl.
Also I don't have to worry about any timing belts breaking.

WOW, when I posted the buttons changed!

WOW 310 at wheels is a lot of power, I never imagine a 3.4 ps go that high na. Spend lot of time and effort to reach it.

I guess if the owner dont change it at 60k like the manufacturer says it will break.

That will not be my case

3.4 Pushrods are nice and easy to drive and work on, they are also lighter (slightly) and even quite torky. But, If you want a car that is really a blast to drive, Is Peaky, and still has decent torque, sounds like an angered Ferarri, go get yourself a 7,000 RPM 3.4 DOHC motor.
But of course thats just my slightly biased opinion.

Not to mention the money he spent!
No it was 310hp at the flywheel. The engine was built by a shop and dyno'd as an engine, not in the car. The pics show the engine on a stand being dyno'd. For what he spent on just the engine, I could have Archie build me a V-8 Fiero.

With a motor like that you could go from 0 to 60 to an empty tank in like 5 seconds!

Nevermind fuel efficiency.

How about a 3800SC with the right pulley. You could get that power and still have above 30MPG when you don't have the foot in it. Best of both worlds.
