Best acceleration, the 4.10 4 spd from the 84 SE's

Best speed, the 3.35 Isuzu 5 spd ( assuming you have the HP)

IMO the best all round transaxle, either the 3.65 4 spd, or the 3.61 Getrag.
Personally I prefer the Getrag.

2nd fastest tranny off the line is the 3.35 isuzu, it has a 3.73 ratio in first gear, and i believe its May actually be geared lower in first than the 4:10 4 speed. but not sure, it has a big spread between 1st and 2nd gear though. it was made to be that way in 1st because the 4cyl needed the low gear in 1st to get it moving.

I'd have to say that the 3.65 4 spd would be THE best for getting off the line, but those transmissions are, aparently, Impossible to find...for at least a good price.

This is what i hear
4:10-Not so easy to find...good Accel
3:61-Decent Accel and Good top speed (my fav)
3:35-Slow 1st good top end (used most for SBC'S)
*3.65-Gets HARD off the line, not much top end

I had the 4:10 and it launched like nothing else but have since upgraded to the Getrag 5 speed which takes off IMO just as hard. If you want stoplight to stoplight speed i'd go for the 3:65...but remember they're hard to find. So i'd have to guess you've got the 2nd best in your car right now. If all else fails i'd get fatter rear tires, trust me, they make a HUGE difference!

EDIT: to add last sentence

The 3.65 Muncie definitely gives you a kick in the pants off the line. That's what is in my 86 SE.

The fastest stock Fiero on the forum (Bandits) has a 3.65 4sp. I also have the 3.65 and it sets you back in your seat in every gear.

not to hijack the thread or anything, but what's the best trans for gas mileage on the interstate and loafing around town? no launches, just cruising. i want my car to last forever, and be cheap to run.

The 3.65 has always been my favorite for racing both street and 1/4 mile. I have heard it is the best ratio for autocrossing as well. I would prefer the getrag if for nothing other than that extra gear on the highway. My last fiero was a 4.10 Muncie and I found the ratios made first gear practically useless.
