Ok, don't flame, I'm not going to try this or anything. Just thought this looked like our front suspension in a way, and wondered why we couldnt design a similar front coil over setup. I need the front end a little lower, is this totally out of the question?

It has been done and can be bought in a kit. http://www.heldmotorsports.com sells one. I have seen people make thier own. I plan on doing weight jacking in the front to get the same effect.

uh, we can, and have...

88s are a 'coil over shock' design already infact.

Held will add ajustable perch 2.5" ID springs and good ajustable shocks to the mix.

Yea, but $900? And that kit the shock goes thru the sleeve and spring. Are there any kits that keep the shock in the original location, so you dont have to replace the control arms?
Like this...

(I meant to post that pic in my first post, when I asked my question, oh well.)

That looks like someone used a coilover kit for a strut in an A-arm suspension car - minus the struts. I guess it would work as long as it the aluminum sleeve and the small spring fit in the pockets right. Doesn't seem like they would because their too small in diameter.

why re-invent the wheel?
anything can be done, but R&D is expensive, i got my kit for around 700 us, with the new arms, from RCC they are great, it's the roads here that caused the problem.

What you appear to want is similar to weight jacks for the front. Several people have done this in a fiero. I plan to do it. I have bought most of the parts and will start this winter. my webpage has pics of other kinds of weight jacking in fieros.

<sigh> The Held stuff is priced like it is for a reason. Quality.

It's really not that expensive for what it is (a well researched and tested and engineered kit.)

A 'coilover' that leaves the shock way out there, isn't a coilOVER ;P (that shock location is lousy, it's why the early chassis has serious lift/dive problems.)

The early lower control arms (and even the 88s) can't take the point-load of a coil-over spring on a typical rod-end mount (can't use conventional spring mounting, the angular changes cause problems.) so it must be replaced with a fabricated part to be safe...

Best!
Ben.
