I bought the 1990 Fiero Video on Ebay and it's worth every penney. This may be the closest we ever get to seeing a 1990 Fiero.
August 5, 1987 was when this video was made and when time travel is invented that conference room in Ponitac on that day is where I'm going.
The acrylic motor cover, separate trunk deck lid and auxilary cargo compartment, engine air inlets in the sail panels, the high-gloss black roof, the quad headlights, I could go on, and on but that car just would have kicked a$$ You have got to see this video!!
These pics below are not in the video, but for those who never saw it, this would have been the 1990 Fiero.

Well, everyone's seen the pics, but does anyone have, or has anyone ever seen the blueprints for the 1989/1990 Fiero? Has anyone ever attempted to build one. I assume there is no way Pontiac will give out the plans, but Im sure they've still got them, even if they have crushed to prototypes

I don't like the look of them that much, they look too much like the Firebird. Not that I don't like the Firebird, it's just the fact that the Fiero doesn't look unique in that picture.

Have to agree with you on that, some of the future Fiero styling cues went into the Firebird after the Fiero was killed. Pic below is a 91 Firebird for comparison. While pictures (artwork) haven't surfaced here on the Forum, they were thinking in the direction of a cross between Lotus and Ferrari for the '92 timeframe. Artwork was created just about the time the Fiero Program bit the dust.

uh why with so many kits out there cant someone just make a body kit to fit our old fieros to make it look like the 1990 fiero? I mean they probably still used the frame from the older fieros right? That would be cool.... archie? hehe

You know the pictures posted in this thread do not do the 89/90 Fiero Justice. From the sail panels forward the 89/90 Fiero is identical in size and shape to the 84-88, just minor cosmetic changes to the front facia and door skin.
The change which seems to make everyone think this is an F-body is the elongation of the rear section. In the video the motor cover is crystal clear acrylic, not cloudy like the pictures. It opened separately from the trunk and was opened by the current fuel door lever. It would have added a unique Fiero touch.
The space frame is the same, it looks nothing at all like an F-body.
But that's just my opinion, I could be wrong.
I could rip it, but it's long, about an hour. Even at a reasonable bit rate, the file would be a couple of hundred megabytes. I don't have that much webspace, unless someone wants to donate webspace to upload this video I wouldn't be able to post it.
Has anybody noticed that the 1990 is *wider*? Look at the inset on the wheels. The wheels are moved out, with wider fenders and door panels..
Likes: wider, quad headlights, removal of side trim, better facia, black roof, those ridges on the rear bumper
Dislikes longer nose, longer rear end, side scoops are ugly (but better than what we have now), front fender wells are strangely shaped, sail panel scoops just suck.

I couldn't tell from the video if the wheels were moved out or not, but they did show a 3 to 4 inch extension being riveted on the door sill. Added to the new body panels would make the car appear wider but with no additional room inside the car.
One more thing...they must have said the expression, "1990 Fiero" at least a dozen times in the video. To hear a room full of people talk about the 1990 Fiero as if it actually exists is priceless.

Now I know why they killed the Fiero program, 89 or 90 Fiero looks like a Camaro or Firebird and could out run a Vette, I'm sure. If you look at the front fenders, imagine it comming up onto the mirror(like the Camaro/Fbird), and the rear fender/quarter panel, is stait like a Camaro/Fbird.

you know, if you look at it right, the curves of the front hood, the front facia, the doorpanels, and the rear facia, it kinda looks like the newest gen vette?

In the video it shows that the "sail panels" are attached to the engine compartment cover. The trunk has a separate cover. The engine cover hinges at the rear of the car roof panel. It has the same roof panel as the original Fiero. The now gas cover lever opens the engine cover, changing the gas cover to a standard finger opening cover. I got my video fron Fiero John-Wi. His e-mail is ( podziemj@matc.edu ).

Someone pointed this out the last time the subject of copying this video came up and I'll repeat it.
Why is it that when the Fiero Store copies one of Rodney's things, we all jump on them for ripping him off but then we want someone to copy a copyrighted video?
The way copyright laws work, someone has a copyright to it. They are automatic, you don't have to file or register anything unlike a patent. In the same vein, Rodney's stuff is not patented and we still support his right to his stuff.

There wouldn't be any blueprints available for the 1989/90 Fiero overall or as a whole because GM doesn't build cars like that. GM has many subdivisions within it, such as Lighting and Powertrain, and each of those works on a specific part of the vehicle, creating and working from their own blueprints as they go. Most blueprints that remain around for any length of time find their way into the Service Parts Assistance Center (SPAC), where they are used by the Team to help research parts. The length that these blueprints remain "on hand" is unknown. I know that when I worked for GM I had 1970 Camaro motor mount blueprints faxed to me in 1990 - 20 years later. Granted the Camaro was more popular than the Fiero (in certain circles, not here obviously! lol) so the demand for these items are higher. I was once invited to the local Olds plant to witness a trial run of a new vehicle being built on the line (the car was 3 years ahead of the current production model) it was being built by individual components/groups. There was no definitive "plans" to build the car that one could work from start to finish with.

I might add some interesting tidbits to this thread. First, the pics above are of a clay mock-up that was present to the GM board. Wes Zaydel told me that any pics you see of the 90 Fiero with Dark tinted glass are of the clay mock-up. Also, Wes had indicated to me that he has the blueprints for that car in his possession at his home. The Fiero plastic panels were his baby and I am sure he has a ton of material in his possession. But, it is like the pics of the running prototype with production panels on it, Wes just retired and wants to remain anonymous for now. I am sure that as time goes on, more of this car is going to show up if I have anything to do with it.

Hehehe, looks like they took a step backward when it came to the seat cloth. in the pictures at the site that GTFiero1 sent, the 1990 GTA has 84' SE seats. Interesting.

FYI - I tried to digitize it when I first got it, only because my VCR has a craving for tapes and hasn't been fed lately. I patched the VCR into the MiniDV camcorder I have and began duping. It didn't work, as the VCR tape quality is quite poor (see still image posted in this thread), and each time the tracking rolls, the tape flickers, or whatever else could go wrong with the tape, there is a pause - an actual blank spot - on the MiniDV tape. This makes the MiniDV tape unusable to me, *however* if someone can manage to get the tape onto a MiniDV tape and would like me to digitize it, I can (and will). PM me for contact info.
Copyrights - yes, I'm sure that there are some, however they belong to the creator - not the content. Pontiac is good about putting copyright notices out, and this looks more like something of a trial run and/or a presentation to be given to "GM Brass" later on. The quality is far below anything GM (or Pontiac) would put their seal of approval on. If Pontiac would like to discuss copyright issues, they can PM me too.
