i have a 84 2M4 and a 85 v-6 SE. the 85 clutch for some odd reason when i was driving just stopped working and i dont know why...if you can give me some suggestions on what i can check. what i wanted to know was will my 84 clutch (which is brand new) be the same or fit in the 85 if i had to replace it?

When you say "stopped working" what do you mean? Does the car not want to go into gear? or if it is in gear, does the engine just rev up and the car doesn't move? What other symptoms can you give us to help pin point the problem?

As for your "good" clutch fitting from a 4 cylinder to a 6 cylinder, Im not sure, you would have to measure them. If both cars have the same tranny they might be interchangeable. You might want to try bleeding the air out of your clutch line to see if this helps. V8archie also had a good write up on doing this and common clutch problems. I would check there first. Hope this helps.

Check the clutch arm, it sounds alot like what happened to me. The easy way to do it is have two people. One to push in the clutch and one person watching the slave arm. If the slave rod is moving about an inch then you need to feel your way down the clutch arm. Feel down till you can feel the end on the clutch fork that sticks out of the tranny. put one finger tip on the clutch fork. have the person push in the clutch again. if the clutch arm moves but the clutch fork does not then you probably have a broken clutch arm.
