Just wondering if there is a formula to figure out at what point the tires will begin to leave the earth on a launch? If you look very closely on the video I posted, the front of my car rises quite high when I leave the line. I dont think the tires were off the ground yet, but I bet before I hit 11's they will. I measured my front end travel, and when the bottom of the fender lip is exactly 6" above the top of the tire, the wheel is next to come up. I saw a fiero awhile back in a High performance pontiac, or Hot Rod mag, that had a 455 mounted with a toronado transaxle, and it ran 12.20's and pulled the front wheels 6". Anyone have any ideas as to when I should see some sky under my Falkens?
X, Try some Drag Shocks with 90/10 (Jounce/Rebound) so that more weight is relocated up higher from the center of gravity during your launch. You do need the low end torque and best method of traction possible with tires. That 455 (Olds longitudinal) is a large block V8 with plenty of torque. Sorry, can't give you a formula. It would be cool to see a 6 cylinder pull a wheely tho. http://hometown.aol.com/m34chev/zoomies.html

I leave the calipers still attached. I just undo the 30mm axle nut, then knock the axle free from the hub. I then undo the 2 15/16 bolts, and pull the thing to the side and out of the way. Works well. Ive done it once for each side now.

All a question of how much torque you can stick, and how much sag is in your suspension (to move the centre of gravity.) With a high tq and atuomatic (and torque converter ) you may indeed be close-ish.
Most if not all street tyres will give before this can occur (for obvious reasons.) you'll likely need a set of real slicks (not DOT slicks, not R compounds even.)
You're running like 1.8sec 60' times, right? Don't think you're launching wheel-lifting hard yet. May take a high-stall converter. (high enough make the car unstreetable, like 4,000rpm.) in addition to some really soft slicks.
Best! Ben.

My best 60' time is 1.9 (avereage 2.0) This pic was taken at Toronto Motorsport Park last fall on a completely stock motor. New mounts, underdrive pulley and engine driveline absorber have since been added. Should be in the 14's this season... Thank god she came equipped with a 4 speed Muncie!

Traction has always been a problem with me. If you look at the above pic, my rear tires are spinning and the fronts don't appear to be. These particular tires are Eagle GT+4 stock sizes and have been on the rims for about 5 years now.

What kind of 60 foots do you pull? How about ET? Just for comparison sakes.
and banditbalz, im going to try and get some front launch pics like that next time to the track. That looks kickass!

Mine almost come off at launch as well, 1.7X 60' times. They do come up on the 1-2 shift, on the street, I would imagine at the track as well. The 3800SC, with the mods that FieroX and I are running produce massive amounts of low end torque. More than most V8 setups produce at similar RPMS. Aprox 400 Ft lbs at about 2500 to 3000 rpm. My tires barely spin at all on launch, this requires massive weight transfer, very little weight is left on the front end, I have several pics from the last time at the track which show the tires barely on the ground. I don't imagine it will take much more to lift them off at launch. Definately will happen before either of us reaches 11 second passes. My next time to track I'm looking for a 12.3 or 12.4 second pass, might happen then. ICY
