as far as I know, new GTs simply weren't available in the first half of 1986, and any that were sold off lots were actually leftover 85 GTs. When the new GT became available in mid-year, it was the fastback model.

please correct me if I'm wrong about this.

85 is the only notch GT.
The only way to prove otherwise is to show us one.

Nope. It's called an 86.5 because the GT did not make the September 1985 introduction with the rest of the new 1986 cars. It was not introduced until February of 1986. Customarily, cars that are introduced after the beginning of the model year get the (1/2) appelation. (i.e. 1964 1/2 Mustang, 1970 1/2 Camaro). Changing equipment levels such as changing a tranny don't warrant changing a model year. Besides, what would you theory say of automatics?

OK that makes sense then.
I was going by Paul Vargas's Price guide where it states
*The Getrag/Muncie 5-Speed replaced the 4-Spd Muncie manual in June 1986
I was Assuming that was what it meant by 86.5
You see because us normal people think of june as mid year. Damn auto makers have their own calender.
