I'm moving accross country, and I wanted to drive the Fiero instead of transporting it. How far have you driven your Fiero? Any cross country road trip stories?

I've driven three of mine from Cincinnati to central CA (and from central CA to Cincinnati) several times - around 2,550 miles one way .. I love driving a Fiero on the road -- you'd be surprised just how much you can carry in a Fiero too. I once had my entire computer system and my daughter and my clothes and hers all the way to CA.

Most all I take are long road trips. This year New York to Florida and back, 3300 miles. New York to Huntsville Alabama and back 1900+ miles.
As long as the car has been well maintained, it should not present any problems. Of course belonging to AAA and having a cell phone handy is always a good idea just in case.

LA to Detroit using southern route, approx. 2,800 miles. Had to push it hard due to a major late winter storm that chased me all the way to Detroit. Almost got snowed in at Flagstaff, State Patrol advised me to keep moving when I filled up with gas because they were shutting the freeway down in 30 minutes. I couldn't believe it, there were cars everywhere off the road. Finally took a 6 hour nap around St. Louis, then put up with the rain all the way home, total time was 33 hrs.
Those long, straight, no end in sight roads across Arizona, Texas, and New Mexico are pretty errie!!! You can be going 150 and it seems like your doing 30. No pull overs or tickets!
I just bought a V8 Fiero across the country from me (Washington DC to Washington State) and will be bringing it home starting this weekend. My thread is running here someplace where I asked basically the same question - "is it ok to drive my Fiero 3000 miles at 75-80mph". Almost unanimously the answer is Yes, no problem.

Just picked up a 84 econo coupe w/the Duke. The 71,154th Fiero ever made. Decent shape, but it came from Burbank, CA a few years ago. So I figured if it came that far, I can make it to Pheonix. IT market sucks in this industrial cess pool of a city (been here all my life) so its off to the promise land. Plus the weather and as California Kid said the roads. Although I'll miss the shoreway. Its the greatest strech of freeway in the world. Its a freakin' video game. Downtown Cleveland to Lakewood with virtually no straightaways, all chicanes, banks and a really scary bridge over the flats, 3 to 4 lanes.
DR650SE, are their any Fiero friendly mechanics in Cleveland? I posted on the tech board, probably the wrong place. I've been screwed and I need some advice.

Drove mine 1500 miles right after I bought it, from Niagara Falls to Houston. No problems along the way.
Very comfortable on the highway. I especially like all the legroom on the passenger side for stretching out and sleeping, (when the other person is driving).

I have taken sooo many long road trips in my Fieros that anything under 1000 miles is short!
The longest was just shy of 7000 miles. I drove an '88 GT (no longer have this one) from Denver to Portland, Oregon. Then from Portland, Oregon I TOWED a 2000 Saturn all the way to just south of Portland, Maine. I then drove from Portland, Maine to Detroit to pick up another Fiero, which I again towed (with my GT) back to Denver.
I did this trip in one week!!
On another trip I drove from Denver to Maine for a Fiero show, then over to the Michigan clubs show before going back home to Denver......that one was about 5000 miles.
I went to Daytona this year, so there was another 4000 mile trip....etc., etc.
If your Fiero is in good running shape then you'll have no problems. I have never been left completely stranded with my Fieros on any road trip, although I have lost a coil or two as well as a catalytic convertor (not to mention running out of gas a few times!).
My vote is to drive it......Fieros are no fun on a trailer!

Wichita, KS to Seattle, WA. Many elevation changes, obviously, through the Rockies. Weather ranged from warm in Kansas, to snow in the mountain passes.
About 1800 trouble-free miles. Well, other than a bad meal at a Denny's, but the car behaved itself .

All these long trips! WOW! I haven't ventured to drive mine more than about 40 or so miles from home. The farthest place I have had it is up to Lake Ontario.
It has been farther... as it was originally sold at a dealer in New Hampshire. It just hasn't traveled with me yet because of its questionable reliability since I bought it 5 yrs ago (and not because its a Fiero, but because it was horrible maintained by the previous owner and I have taken my time getting back into really good mechanical condition.)

I have made several trips between Austin, TX and Salt Lake City, UT and Dallas, TX and Boise, ID. All of these trips have been in either my 84 SE or my 88 Formula. The Formula got better gas mileage and was easier to pass cars in.
So, if anyone ever needs to know the fastest route out of Texas heading to the NorthWest let me know and I can show you the quickest, most scenic, longest, most boring, you name it I have driven it leaving Texas.

For a few years in a row I drove my Formula 1800+ miles from Seattle to Topeka, KS for the SCCA Solo II National Championship, raced the car, then drove it back to Seattle. All of the driving (except for the racing) was done while towing a small utility trailer with my tires and tools.
A couple years ago I picked up my '88 GT at Ed's place and drove it about 2800 miles back to Seattle. I stopped for a few days in Omaha to do x-mas with the family. Does that count?
Fieros are good road trip cars.

Not nearly as far as most everyone else...bought my car in Broomfield, CO, and drove it home, about 600 miles. Didn't burp once, didn't use a drop of oil, not one single problem. Took it two weeks later over to the local club meeting...about an hour and 15 minutes away...and the alternator went south on me. I've driven it to the Dells show, and to St. Louis to the show there...both trips about an 8 hour drive...and have to agree with everyone else, the Fiero is a GREAT highway car. I drove my 94 Grand Prix out to Colorado to pick up the GT, and the GT was actually more comfortable than the GP was!
