Hey everyone. I'm looking to get a Fiero soon and wanted to ask some questions from people that know what they are talking about. This seems to be the place.
My questions are:

Is the GT the only version with the V6?

What is the auto called and is it a good transmission?

Where do you get most of your restoration and performance stuff? Anyplace online besides The Fiero Store?

Are there any big problems with these cars that they all have, being that they are a minimum of 14 years old?

Thats about it for now. Thanks....

We are all going to say they are great cars.
The V/6 was ava. in all models, the auto tranny is a th125 and as soon as I get my car on the road I will tell you how they hold up. I'm running a 350 with 100shot Nitrous on my auto. I bought my Fiero last summer and had no problems with the V/6. Only thing I changed was the computer chip.

No, the 1988 Formula also has the V6. The 1985 SE was available with the V-6 (Marked "2M6"), but the GT came in at the half year, essentially replacing the SE/2M6 moniker.

GM calls it the TH-125. It's not bad for a 1980's slushbox, but I'd guess it beats a manual in city traffic. (Can you tell I'm biased to the manual gearboxes? )

Several to both questions. The Fiero is not a mystery car, as some would have you believe. The parts are mostly GM stock parts, including both engines, the '84 - 87 suspension, and more. Any GM dealer will still have many of the parts, but probably can only cross reference them to more current cars.

Summit Racing, Jeg's, and others are available online.

For Fiero specific stuff, especially body, interior, etc. click on the "Fiero Vendors" button that Cliff (our dear moderator) has conveniently placed up above all of this other stuff.

I'll answer your question a bit differently than you asked it: No, there are no special problems that would not otherwise be an issue with a 14 year old car, based on the way that they may have (not) been cared for.

One special concern not unfamiliar to us is that the engine and tranny are located on a subframe, and this assembly removes from the bottom of the car. It doesn't frighten many of us, of course, or we pay our mechanics plenty not to be especially worried.

Glad to help. Have fun here, and most of all, have fun with your Fiero!

'84's only had 4 cylinder engines. All GT's had 2.8L V6's pretty sure all Formula's did too. SE's after '84 could be ordered with a V6, they were badged with a 2M6 on the decklid.

Fieros are plastic but they still rust. The spaceframe especially in the trunk and engine compartment rust. Common to rust out is the battery tray but that can be fixed.

Yup, all GT's had the V6. All Formulas had the V6, and the V6 was available as an option on the SE in 85-87.

Rodney Dickman has a lot of useful Fiero parts. http://www.RodneyDickman.com

The Fiero Store has lots of stuff, but you can usually find the same parts cheaper somewhere else.

As was previously said, lots of parts are still availalbe through regular channels. Just try your local auto parts store first. Anything you can't find locally, someone on here can probably find for you.

Let em be the first to say YOU WON'T REGRET YOUR PURCHASE.

I've found decent performance parts on eBay (rarely). If you can find a good one at a pick and pull thats an excellent place... especially for interior parts.

They're not ultra-rare cars... but they're rare enough to turn heads and get compliments.

GOOD LUCK!
