Burnouts are fun! Albeit, hard on the car. Specifically the clutch, tires, tranny, and suspension will take a bit of a beating, so make sure the car is in good shape, and don't do 'em very often. [/mandatory burnout warning]
As for how to do 'em. With the car in 1st gear (I'm assuming manual tranny), and the clutch disengaged (pedal pressed), rev the engine. How high you go will determine how long and good the burnout will be. Personally, if I'm really showing off, I rev to 4500 or so, I wouldn't go any higher, since you'd be out of your peak hp (assuming 2.8L V6). At this point you "drop the clutch". What this means is take your foot off the clutch pedal as fast as you can.
Once you've got the basics down you can elaborate and get fancier. You can get into donuts, multiple gear burnouts, etc. A donut simply is a burnout with your steering wheel turned hard to one direction. Once you start getting some grip the car will flip around in circles. This is fun, but make sure you got stuff secure in the cabin (CD cases, passengers, etc.).
Best of luck to ya, and don't hurt that Fiero!

Im often do the drop the clutch thing...but I just dont think my car has enough power to do a burnout...all that happens is a little squeel...but when its wet out, I can go forever.
------------------ '86 Fiero 2M4 with lots of extras.
Step 1) Place foot on brake. Step 2) Put car in 1st gear. Step 3) With foot firmly on the brake, floor the gas pedal. The tires should start to spin soon. (if ya got the power) Step 4) With tires smokin, get off the brake. Make sure gas pedal is to the floor.
You are doing a burnout.. (you might want to throw a little water on your tires before you start. It will help your cause.
Stick Shift Tran's
Step 1) Place 1 foot on brake & 1 foot on the clutch. Step 2) Put car in 1st gear. Step 3) With foot firmly on the brake, press the gas & bring the RPM's up to 5000. Step 4) Get off the clutch & mash the gas. Step 5) Ride that brake slightly. Tires should be somkin.. Step 6) Off the brake & away you go....
unless your running M/T Hoosier or other dedicated racing Slick it's of NO benefit. with no burn out on my 18s i can still pull a 1.78 60' time... better than many on slicks.
and the one wheel burn out you'll end up with can scatter the spyder gears in the differential.
left side of right foot hard on the brake right side of right foot on gas about 2500+ rpm in 1st gear then dump the clutch. if you have an auto.. STAND on the brake and then STAB and stand on the gas. i can spin my sticky 225s.. i'm sure with a hard northern climate tire you'll smoke em quick. on a damp surface you'll spin em both... or drift around a corner my thin sidwalls are great for drifting!
All that you have to do is put the car in 1st gear let the clutch out easy and be going along at about 5 MPH,then mash the gas and the tires break loose( at least in my car they do).

Hey, I can't do a burnout in my auto without doing the tranny dump method. When I lock up the front and give it gas, the front just slides across the pavement. It never breaks loose for me..? How come??
I used to do burnouts in my old car all the time... in fact I had to be careful to NOT smoke the tires, or at least squeal them, when I touched the gas at an intersection, stop sign, etc..
The same car also had it's rear wheels locked up (e-brake was on, I totally forgot) when I backed out of a friend's driveway.. I didn't notice anything was wrong until he seemed a bit agitated, so I stopped.... turns out I'd plowed some rather deep ruts in his driveway & lawn... I thought the car seemed slightly sluggish, but I didn't think anything of it. Oh well, e-brake off, he handed me a rake and I fixed the lawn.. live and learn I guess!
I also managed to spin the tires on my would-be fiero that day... I had driven down to test drive a fiero he had for sale, and I bought it a couple weeks later.

its not his fault that he brakes every tranny hes ever touched and every car
Hold the brakes down, bring the boost up to 5PSI. The tires should start spinning. Increase the boost to 7 PSI, release the brakes and floor it. It should spin through first and second gear.
No wait, that's my Regal....

HMMM, more power is my favorite way of doing burnouts, with my 3.4 and 185/70/14 SNOW tires I let ot the clutch as mash the gas, revs dont get higher than 1700 untill the clutch is out(and very little clutch slip, just fast feet), and they will spin easy.
With phils method, I get a mad wheel hop, i suppose i need a few more ponies for spinning them like that...
