I can think of 2 good reasons off the top of my head.
1) weight, the SBF is the lightest of the 'popular' V8's 2) the crank snout is a more favourable design, its much more like the 2.8 and this helps alot when making an adapterplate and flywheel fit in a tight area. This is one of the 'awkward' area's of the SBC.
Search for the Ford V8 thread-there is more info there as well. I probably won't do it, but I can see the advantages if someone did.
I saw a Rover aluminum V8 in the paper this week for $600 cnd, now THAT would be a great motor for the Fiero.

I've HEARD...mind you, just heard...that Bob at Twin Lakes Fiero is working on a 5.0 liter engine swap. Take that with a grain of salt...I saw a mention of it a couple of times on one of the Fiero Mailing lists, but never saw anything to back it up...

So, in other words.. there is no adapter kit to put a ford v-8 in a fiero... Well, he is a Mopar, Ford guy anyway.. I guess I'll have to tell him he's blowing smoke....

a SHO yammamhaha twin cam V-8 out of a older tauris is in a fiero pic posted to this board I think they used it's ford 5speed with it not a kit custom one off
The 318 I had in my charger was sweet, it had 3 wires going to the motor. I abused the he11 out of it and it came back for more. Not like the POS trany.

I think I understand this concept. If nothing else it would be different and isn't that important too. We all want to have something just a little bit different. IF I could, my choise for an engine would be a VW VR6 with a supercharger on or my ultimate would be a Porsche 928 engine : :. It all comes down to how much speed can your bank account give you.

Well, actually the question is... "Is there someone out there marketing a conversion kit to put a Ford V-8 in a Fiero..??" (You know.. like an Archie V-8 kit.) He said he saw it advertised someplace.. Not a one-off " So-and-so put one in" but someone that is actually fabricating the parts, adapters,etc.. and selling it as a bonifide conversion kit.

To answer your question directly... No. There isn't anyone marketing and/or mass producing a Ford V8 conversion kit for the Fiero. That's pretty simple.
Now on the side note of custom fabrication- I have a video (from the infamous crooks of the kitcar world known originally as JLGI or Jay Lucas Group Int'l, of Florida) showing a Koenig Ferrari Rebody kit (7" stretched chassis) with a Ford SHO V8 powerplant (which I believe was actually built by Yamaha). Well... it looked nice. And that's about all anyone can tell of it!
Thanks Minn... That's what I wanted to know... I'll tell him he's full of $#@&!!! I tell ya, he was pretty adament about it...

So who has a CAD drawing of the 302 bellhousing and crank center? I'd be curious to look at this. Anyone know off hand how big the clutch disc and/or flywheel is in a 5.0? I think I saw somewhere that its a 12.5" FW, and that would be almost perfect.
We all know that BMW makes the only V8 suitable for the Fiero!!!
Best! Ben.
