The one I saw and almost bought years ago had more gadgets on it than a Cadillac, and leather seats to boot. The reason I ask is that I wound up ordering a Reatta dogbone as the guys at the parts place couldn't come up with one that was actually FOR my Fiero that fit when it got there. The Reatta one had the right dimensions and actually worked like a champ. <still is>

Nope, the Reatta is based on the Riviera chassis, same dash as the Riv of those years. It was front engined, front wheel drive and came in coupe and later convertible models. It wasn't exactly a sporting vehicle other than it had two seats. I always thought they were pretty cool looking, for Buicks with slushboxes, at least .

The Reatta wasn't so much a Buick Fiero - but there was some influence. They wanted to do a 2 seat luxo touring car, not sports car. Hence the leather and gadgets. It was one of the first mass produced automobiles with a touch screen display, and they were notoriously buggy. It was front wheel drive, and front engined.

Answered my own question, more or less. The link below has some interesting information, like a 3.8 liter engine and 16 way power seats. Hm .. also, it was manufactured from 1988 to 1991 - followed the Fiero to the grave. It was a BUICK hand-built luxury car - the one shown in this link went for $36k. . . But it sure LOOKS like Fiero's cousin!
The Reatta is one of my "millionaire cars," meaning a car I would buy if I was a millionaire. I would buy a bunch of average cars, ones I have always liked, and the Reatta is one of them. They look very cool, and while not potent like a Fiero, still sporty looking, and the tail end is nice.

I've owned two Reattas and I can tell you from personal experience that they used alot of info gathered from the fiero. Steel subframe....plastic body panels and fiberglass. They even look like a Fiero in many ways. Like you took a notchback and blew it up like a balloon. LOL

They built it to cash in on the Mercedes SL, Cadillac Allante, Maserati/Chrys with a 2 seat personal luxury car at the bottom of the price scale for that style vehicle.

I always thought the Reatta's styling was kind of "ho-hum". Didn't care too much for that generation Riviera, either. Just my own opinion. I'm still surprised that the Allante didn't catch on, though.
