Just got through reading Christopher Jacobs'(Ph.D. E.E.) book called "Performance Ignition Systems." Awesome! I never knew performance ignition systems could be so exciting. Really!
The guy's got some real interesting things to say about what his system does (i.e., Jacobs Electronics) and what MSD, Mallory, Crane ignitions et al. don't.
One of the most significant things he states is that variable magnetic coils provide more hp and mileage than those hotshot 40K volt coils since these coils have outputs that often drop to 8K volts when the plugs start to foul and the rpms go up. Moreover, if the voltage is too high for a particular condition (e.g., when the plug is not fouled and the engine runs at low rpm), the hotshot coils tend to put out sparks that punch holes through the air/fuel mixture (i.e., cavitation) leading to a loss in HP/Torque.
The variable magnetic coils, on the other hand, sense the condition of each cylinder and can usually put out about 28K volts under all rpm and engine conditions. When the Jacob's ignition control system is used with the coil, the computer takes several measurements and makes numerous calculations for each cylinder after it fires to determine the optimal voltage for each spark plug.
Needless to say, Jacobs states that neither MSD, Crane nor Mallory symtems peform these functions.
Granted, the guy is biased, but his book is worth looking into, bunk or no bunk.
Does anybody had any experience, good or bad, with a Jacobs Electronics ignition system?

P.S. BTW, my baby runs on a MSD 6AL/MSBlaster II coil setup.
