Hi guys, This summer I really want to add new side scoops to my black '85 GT. I was wondering if some of you guys could post some pics of the ones on your cars, and please feel free to leave comments of like how hard they were to install, price, also if you were to do it again if you would use the same scoops.
They are from FOCOA. They are nice & thick. (very thick) I didn't have any trouble installing them. (with exception of the mounting hardware. Thanks again Oreif) They come cut & ready to paint. I didn't like the screens that came with them so I made some out of '85 engine grate mesh.
Mine are also from http://www.fierowarehouse.com/ I am very satisfied. Easy install. You can get them with screens also, the screens come galvanized , I painted them black at first but the paint kept chipping,I removed them and coated them with black spray on bed liner haven't had any problems since !! Also mine have blue lights in them

Those last scoops look kinda funny with the added trim. Are they missing a piece or something? Whoever has those installed on their car could you please post some pics when they are complete and again when they are painted?
Are there any other options out there for scoops?
Also, how difficult is it to install them? Is it just unscrew the old pannels and screw on the new ones? or do you have to do some fiber glass work?
Another question is have any of you noticed any difference in relationship to how your engine is running? Do they actually cool down your engine more? Does anyone use these in combination with a "deck lid scoop"?
If anyone has the answers please let me know, also any other info on this subject is much appreciated.
The scoops above are on Doni Hagen's car- read the above linked thread for installation info. And yes, they were not yet finished.
All forms of side scoops will bring some additional air to the engine- how that affects the engine compartment is specific to how you plumb it during install. Keep in mind that all scoops will bring more air in- but with that air comes additional dirt, water, and debris. (so change/clean your filter regularily).
The decklid scoop (commonly used is the 'stang-style) will help remove some extra heat from the engine compartment- but this is also what the side vents next to the decklid to. If you really want to evacuate more of the hot air- a combination of the vents and possibly some electric fans could be used. (Although engine compartment heat has not been blamed for many problems aside from melted ice cream after a grocery run- put it inside with you )
Finally- if you're engine is running hot, venting air from behind/around the radiator can help. Installing a vent/grill above/behind the radiatior on the front hood would help this as well...
The above statements are most of the different body mods I'm planning for this spring/summer: Deck Scoop, Hood Vent, and Stage-2 Side scoops (if I can cough up the dough shortly here). So some of the stuff I stated may sound scientific- but I don't have any tests or reports to back up these findings (except the ice cream thing).

Since we're talking about side scoops, I've got a question about Aus' Stage 2 scoops. They look fabulous, but with the intake so far back on the fender, how does that affect making it functional? If you wanted to plumb the scoop to the air intake, you'd have to curve backwards to do it, and there doesn't seem to be much room from the scoop entrance to the fender well. Ideas?

Got 'em from the Tire Rack while I was in Vegas. They are forged aluminum Antera 121 from Italy measuring 17" X 7.5" Unlike most knock-offs, These have the hidden valve stems located near the center hub.
Here's a shot of the wheel and scoop from another angle.

Well, I guess I can keep answering questions then...
Smooooth- the Fibersmith website isn't up right now? (8:50am CST) Don't recall which scoops Pat is still marketing.
1st off- Airflow in the Stage-2 System from AUS: The scoop includes a "duct" system to allow you to plumb the airflow wherever you want (funny shaped object in photo)
Next- Pricing (in order of my above post):
Mecham Scoops: There are very few suppliers of these remaining. Originally they were made from Urethane (but those are nearly impossible to find now). FOCOA is the only supplier I'm aware of who still advertises these- they list at $225 for FOCOA Members (probably $250-$275 for non-members).
Pontiac Scoops: These come from a wide variety of suppliers. FieroWarehouse (007Doug) offers a high quality sets from $190-$220 depending on what state of completion you want. There are others out there (Fibersmith?) but I don't have other details at the moment.
Aus's Stage-2 are $340 including shipping to the US from Australia.
IRM Integrated Rockers can also be purchased from numerous places as well. IRM still sells direct (sorry, I don't have contact info from them) for about $550. You can also order reproductions from Denny Patton @ Specialty Auto for $395.
Holley side scoop: Real Holley Scoops sell from $100-200 on Ebay on a regular basis. Aftermarket similiarities can be found in the $20-$50 range from FieroWarehouse, RaceTech/FieroShop, and BBJ Resin Specialties.
Smooooth- which scoops do you guys have?

*bump* for SailorDude (so all my typing is not in vain )
Smoooth... don't worry about it. I have a 'stang-style scoop from both Pat (Fibersmith) and from the infamous "Outlaw performance" -and the difference is unbelievable! Pat's quality is far superior. I only wish I had known about him when I bought the 1st from Outlaw... I ended up paying more for there junk!

Or, if you are lucky and happen to be at the right junkyard at the right time, you can get a genuine Holley scoop for $2.00 like I did a couple of weeks ago.
