Right in front of my house, a woman was killed today while crossing the street because some ******* in a Mercedes found in necessary to speed in a zone where *a lot* of pedestrians are (this is a shopping street). Of course, he was alright, but the lady died on the street.
People, be aware that the human body is no match for a car. Think about that next time you want to use the streets as your personal racing track.

I know one thing for sure. He is going to have to pay thru the nose, if what you said about speeding fines, over there, is true. Not to mention the lawsuit he will face for killing the woman.

Having had so many NDE's myself, I can only say a prayer for such needless loss of life... No chance of a neiborhood petition to install some traffic lights to slow down the Bozo speeders, Cliff? crash...

That's the problem, I don't think he will... The Dutch legal system is screwed up. For killing the woman he won't even get a year probably, moneywise, I have never heard of anyone having to pay the amounts here, you would have to pay in the US. I wish they could lock him up for a LOT of years with a fine over his head which makes him have to beg for money for the rest of his life.

Screwie is right. He'll probably get a small fine for speeding (small because they can't prove how much he was speeding), and the fact he killed someone in the process - well, maybe he'll loose his driver's license for a few months because of that. I said it in another thread: if he had comitted tax-fraud, the dutch legal system would be all over him. But he only killed someone.

Cliff, Very sorry to hear about the death at your front door, can only hope that she wasn't in pain for very long.
I'm pretty surprised about what you've written about your legal system above. It just seems that if anybody wanted to kill someone, the car would be the perfect weapon to use and not worry about the consequences. You must be a real peaceful bunch of people, if the same applied to the Detroit area, you wouldn't be able to walk anywhere.
