I was sitting here reading the directions that Aus sent with the sub box and wondering what he was on when he wrote them, when suddenly I got this crazy notion to throw caution (and the directions on how to stretch the vinyl - sorry Aus! ) to the wind and take the entire thing to my upholstery friend. Here are the finished results ...

With Speaker:

Without Speaker:

Side View:

With top panel removed:

The vinyl is stitched from the top to the bottom, then laid over the box and stapled down. It is padded too, and with just enough so that it doesn't look like it is but it certainly feels like it is.

We're still working out a price (he did more work on mine than he should have had too), but if anyone is interested in having their sub box upholstered, let me know and I'll put you in touch with my friend directly.

I figured you'd get a kick out of that.

I also forgot to mention that the top piece (the one directly behind the speaker) has the vinyl sewn around the speaker opening. The bottom piece is held down by door panel retainers (the white "Christmas Tree" type) so that it could be removed if necessary.

I know Chester will post some pictures when he gets his back, as he went "ga-ga" when I showed him my speaker box this past weekend.
