How many times do you guys get people coming up to you and laughing because they think you have a 4?
I think it cracks me up sometimes how many 4's have dual tips? and growl like that, I get sunfires, cavaliers and all revving it at me then I look over wait for them to laugh and point then rev back
I mean even if ya do still have a 4 who cares, I love my current ride but it just doesn't bring the joy that the 84 did... maybe all the memories
I Revved my little 6 at a new rustang that was beside me yesterday. He laffed and shook his head. He laffed the entire time until he realized I was leaving him in my dust.

I've got V6 duals on my 4. Don't get any laughs, probably because they don't know what the heck it is or what it's got. That's ok with me.
Growling to a light one time, two lanes over a guy shouts "Hey, those such and such (I couldn't make out what he said) resonator tips?.. Sounds great." I had to think for a second, then told him they where "stock" turned and then couldn't stop laughing.
Lots of fun, get awesome gas mileage. I get reminded of that all the time when guys at work ask me "Hey, what was the price of gas on the way in" and I tell them that I didn't even look. Just as long as you don't have an inferiority complex, '84's with 2.5's are great.
EVERYONE thinks my car has a 4 in it. Someone tried to tell me that the notch back Fiero's all have 4 cyl's and that the fastback's all have V6's. So my car couldnt have a V6..because it isnt a fastback. I thought that was pretty funny!

I get that alot.. people just don't know about, or don't respect the Low weight/4.10 gear ratio combination. It's fun to beat guys with close to twice my HP to 30, the way the car hooks up makes it eerily quick of the line, and it actually pulls pretty hard from 55-75, and anyone with and 84 can tell you that.
I find it funny how there is a group among fiero owners that rags on the 84 and 85-88 4-cyl because they aren't v-6, yet most have either Never driven one, or just assume absolute inferiority. It's not that the 4-cyl are as fast as the v-6, but their not slow. I aprieciate the vieo of the other 70% of fiero owners who started out in 4-cyl and don't hate them, and they don't dislike them, they just would rather have a V-6. I'll let any disbeliever drive my car, and i promise you'll grin.

My first Fiero was an Med. Red Metallic 87 coupe with a 5 speed. I loved it. After I had the header on it I could keep up with the V6s in my club and just top off the tanks when they were guzzling up at the station on long trips.
I had never been laughed at because I never really had anyone think I had a V6. Some people would see it in the parking lot and say it looked fast but even getting a growl from taking out the cat never got me called out at the light.
Oddly enough, now that I have an 85 GT with Formula nose and body, some Honda boys think I have a 4 cyl right up until I rev it.
I got spoiled with the 87 DIS and the general layout. 84-86 just seemed so unnecessarily cluttered. I think I had to change out my first coil pack at 145,000 miles. The other was still strong right up until it was totaled.

wow i'm glad to finally see a thread praising 4 cyl. i have an 84 SE (don't get much more base model than that) i love my little 4 banger especially the gas mileage. i get between 250-300 miles out of the stock 10 gal tank. it feels great to fill up with plus gas for $7. my first car was a honda accord 4 cyl and i definetly feel the difference with the fiero. i took my friend for a ride in it not too long ago and he said it had some balls for a 4cyl. he's drivin a v6 and i don't have much trouble keepin up with him on the highway.

Ahhh... They are talking about coups with V6's being mistook for L4's... As to my L4's, I will remidy that this spring with a 3800... Sure will be nice to have some power to go with the looks...

Don't know if people have actually thought my car was a 4-banger, but I've had Escorts and Hondas try to race me all the time. Still, it was a 4-cylinder coupe that got me hooked on Fieros in the first place, so I've got no problem with them. Sure, I prefer a V6, but the 4's are cool too.
Ok, so I prefer a V8. So sue me.

Hope I'm not shaming you guys, but right now, my 1988 Coupe is kind of slow. It just cheerfully "oozes" on up to the speed limit. But, laughed at? It's never happened to me yet.
The problem is, it has a slipping clutch. I'm itching to fix it, and see what it'll do. Plus then, I'll know what I'm talking about when it comes to the Isuzu 5-speed, and the clutch that comes with it.
Unfortunately, for now, that's a "back-burner" project. The car is driveable, and I don't have the time to change out the clutch. Until I do that, I really won't know anything except what I read.
Compared to the pictures you others have posted here, my '88 is a real beater. But, I've never been laughed at in this little car. I've even received a few nice comments !

I've never had anyone laugh at me because they think I have a 4... then again, I think the 16 Valve H.O. badge and the slightly different exhaust note take care of that

i'll tell you i drove 4 cyl auto and it really wasn't bad, but when i got my indy 4 speed,i was surprised how good it took off,the little duke really moves the car well, plus the gas mileage is very good, i love my 86gt, but the indy makes me feel good, looking at it and driving it. 84 INDY 4 speed (stole it)250$ 86 GT 89 WS6 GTA 5.7L
I actually get a lot of respect while driving my '85 Coupe.. I have a V6 exhaust on it & high flow cat... I have Sports Cars & Old Muscle Cars pull next to me at a lights all the time & ask me if its a V8.. I tell that its a 4 & they ALL still say "Nice Car" I even get nods from totally decked out Import cars.. I seem to get ugly looks from Grand Am's & Cavilers thou....

I raced a guy in a 87 gt 5spd with my 87 base coupe. He won but still didnt belive I had the duke in it till I showed him. Rolling start from 70 kph. We were on it hard all the way to 160 kph. My car is falling to pieces now but I cant affored to fix it till jan. Still no one laughs at it.

I welcome that first impression, my decklid says 2m4, I have single exhaust, 13" skinny alloys from an oldsmobile, and there is a nice hole where the trunk lock used to be. it looks pretty slow. It has a 3.1 DIS V6, the only way you can tell its not a 4 is the loud growl sound, and it eats rice.

I have rarely had people "laugh" because I had a four. I get more people who do not have a clue as to what is in it ask me, either because they have long since forgotten or never knew what engines were available.
Before I got the wing back on, I had a few suckers try me from stop lights and such with Saturns and other 4-bangers, but since I got the wing painted and back on that hasn't been much of a problem.
My biggest nussance is Celcia GTS owners... they always want to race but only when they are already moving. If a stop light turns red, they find a reason to turn or otherwise not be at the line with me. At least they know they have no torque!
