I don't think we've covered this one yet...

For those of you who want HID, real HID that is fully USDOT legal. Visit Osram Sylvania and check out the new Xenarc products.

This is a new product that has just come out.

There are 2 kits of imediate interest to Fiero.

X6054 directly replaces the 6054 family of standard and halogen seal beam lamps. It lists for $799us.

X1010 auxiliary low beam lamp. This system installs like a fog lamp. It lists for around $550us

You should be able to find these in many parts stores in the near future. You may have to special order.

These are true Xenon HID arc lamp systems NOT another dumb $hit halogen knock off.

They are listed as Fully DOT 108 legal!

They can be installed with only minor alterations to OE hardware. You could even remove them if you sell the car. (As long as you don't chop off the OE lamp sockets.)

They inlcude all the wiring, ballasts, and hardware.

You can down load the installation instructions to see just how they are setup. (You'll need acrobat reader.) Very nice packages.

In Fiero, the X6054 kit shouldn't take more than about an hour or two to install and aim. The balasts can go right on the front of the spare tire well.

The X1010 kit would probably take longer. You have to make sure the mounting point for the lamps is very solid and it's probably harder to find a place for the balasts.

/me rolls eyes at the cheapies in this fourm...

I did HIDs myself, and the parts cost (kit and housings, plus adapt/align misc stuff.) was about $650, then it took me four hours of futzing with it, at $65/hour...

These are cheaper (but I'd still do them myself, just because I enjoyed it.)

HID lighting is expensive, do these Xenarcs make any provisions for high-beam headlights?

    Best!
    Ben

PS: The result in the end is well worth the investment, the sheer awesome visability you get with these ligths is amazing, like driving with a set of night-vision goggles on.

Yes, X6054 does have integrated high beam. I'm not sure just how it works inside the lamp. The wiring for all of it is in the downloadable instructions. I figure they could probably draw main power from the radiator fan main feed.

They need an additional power feed. The headlight switch likely can't handle the startup current draw. Once they are running they use less power than standard or halogen 6054's.

These are the only street legal True HID system I know of that can be used as a drop in replacement for the covered OE light sets.

I figured the kit guys would be more interested than most of the people. This option gives the kit cars an even more upscale finish.
