Raydar, About a month ago, a forum member posted a message in the for sale section, and asked what people would be willing to pay for for NOS OEM GT exhaust tips. Well one thing led to another and I bought a set.
As you know the 88's (L&R) have equal bends, and the 85-87 have one side slightly longer by an inch over the other side. So I had to make sure that the tips were the same. It was suggested that you stand the tips up side by side with megaphone side down to make sure they were equal lengths.
The tips that I got are dealer replacements for the gt's. These are what the dealers replaced your old tips with during the early 90's. But they are equal lengths for the 88's. They are also slightly heavier than the the stock tips.
I couldn't get the old tips off, so I took them to a muffler shop and heated the hell out of them and they slid out. After removing the old tips, he heated the end again and slid a cold pip in to take out the indentaion left from the old tips, then the new ones slid in. He also had to take about a 1/2 inch off my new ones so that they would line up in the facia slots. He then welded them on. Total muffler shop cost was $26. The tips were rather expensive, but I wanted the gt style so I forked out $75 each. Ya, its alot of money, but there brand spanking new and sound great.
Now if I could only find a set of those "remove before flight" things to stuff in the megaphones.....
I will try to find you the link to the forum member who got them for me.
