Ok, I've been digging around for quite some time now looking for a set of nice wheels. I still very much like the stock-style wheels, I'd just like something similiar in a 17" wheel and possibly a little wider in the back. I know that BBS used to make them, but they no longer do- the style has changed. Also, I really like the slightly deeper dish, as opposed to flush looking rims. Any suggestions?

Nissan GTP w/Gold Wheels (I know they're too big...)

These are the Firebird GTA Gold Wheels. Right Style but still only 16" (and wrong bolt pattern).

It's too bad GTA wheels don't fit. I always thought that's what the GTs should've come with. Seems dumb that GM couldn't make them the same bolt pattern.

Good luck. I've been looking for months with no success. A few come close, but no cigar.

Check out www.aaarims.com

I know you want 17s, but maybe this will be useful.

The early 90s Grand Prix had a 16x8 wheel that looked like the GT wheel.
The Bonneville had a 16x7 wheel that was identical, other than the size, and the paint color.
Of course, these were 5x115 wheels.
If I can ever figure out a reasonable way to change bolt circles, these are what I'm going to get.

I thought the trick was to use Pontiac 6000 spindles and bearings on the pre-88's...
I think brakes too...?

Rob--Does Compomotive still sell wheels? If so, they'd probably be your best bet. Doug Kinney has some Compomotives on one of his Fieros and it looks good! (At least the pic does.)

Yeah that is the idea using the Pontiac 6000 stuff. But it only works for like the back I think. I think Im going to see if my friend can redrill the holes so the bolt pattern would work in the roters. Not sure yet though. Im really hoping it will work since I love the Torque Stars off of a 99 Grand Prix GTP. They are 16" rims but they are just the ones that I love. Well see. Should try and work on it sometime this week.

OK, but now I've gone and confused myself with tire-size questions. I'd like to go to a 17"x7" front, and a 17"x8" rear. I'd like to keep the stock ratio so I don't mess up my speedometer- So right now I've got 15"x7" (stock are 7" right?)Wheels all the way around, running 205/60/15 front & 215/60/15 rear. So If I switch to the above mentioned 17s, what tire size would I run?

According to the "Tire Size Calculator" I would use 245/40/17 (front) 255/40/17 (rear) to have less than 1% error in speedometer reading... Is this right? Or is it not taking into account a different tire width? Help! I'm lost.

I know I'm a genius. Actually, it's just a good memory and lots and lots of surfing. I've always loved those Compomotive wheels on Dougs car. If I had the cash, I'd have a set.

No. I didn't receive the CD yet. (You didn't send it FedUp, did ya? )

MM- the CD went via USPS (Snail Mail). Should be there soon.

Just for others reading this... I started a topic in Tech about the tire size for the 17" wheels... https://www.fiero.nl/forum/Forum2/HTML/015215.html

Don't forget the wider you get in the rear the more strain your gonna put on those axles.

Hey, Rob...

Try some of the Beemer yards listed in Hemmings. That's how I found the 16" BBS honeycombs for my old 635. Maybe one of them may have a line on where you can find an used BBS set. At the very least, you may find them in silver and can have them refinished.

BTW...do you still want the gas door cover? If so I can pick it up this weekend.

Are you sure about that? If so, it sounds like a good way of making a LOT of wheels suddenly available. Cheap, too. Pontiac 6000s are a dime a dozen in boneyards! If you have any specific information about how to do it, e-mail me at
<eclipseproduction@hotmail.com>

Thanks.

Doni.

Rob,

Be careful about what you order. The description that Compomotive uses for offset (positive vs. negative) is exactly the opposite of what I've always heard.

Well, 6000's came with both 5x100 and 5x115 bolt patterns, if I remember correctly. The 5x115 was on the Heavy Duty equipped cars. Still, that only helps in the rear. What do you do with the front wheels?

If someone does know of an easy way to get a 5x115 bolt pattern on a Fiero, that opens up a world of options!

Update!

I recieved a reply this morning from Compomotive Wheels (www.usacomp.com - US importer). They tell me that they have done many Fieros and have no problems producing the correct size & bolt pattern. For a set of CX style wheels (17x7 front/17x8 rear) they have quoted me $1950 ($487.50ea). Although this is quite expensive, I guess that's what I was expecting for a custom built set of 17" wheels. Also, they suggested 215/45 front and 235/45 rear for tire sizes.

I won't be ordering these anytime soon- I've got a few other priorities ahead of them. But I do intend to start saving separately for them- they're worth it (to me).

If anyone is interested in compomotive wheels, I was told the preferred person to contact is Alan at 800-621-8408 from 9-5est.

Standard-
I've looked at quite a few other "gold" wheels that are all cool... but I just really like the look of the mesh wheel- don't think I could go any other way (unless the funds just never show up, then...who knows?)

Ummm... I'm pretty sure the car in that pic has the stock 15" rims- I'm going for the same style, but in 17"! (see my sig in the 1st post? I've got the stock 15's in gold too).

Hihi, my mistake, I didn't read your post good enough I had seen the gold ones in your sig, but in my defence, with photoshop these days you can't be sure if it's real or just photoshopped
