I'm sure you've all seen this happen before... A Harley drivin' down the road sees another Harley, and they wave or somehow say a non-verbal "hello" to each other as they pass.
Well, we vette owners do the same thing (or at least some of us do... this is a VERY hot topic on the corvette forum)
So, if your crusin' down the road, and you see a Fiero pass by, and he sticks his arm out the window and waves, would you just think, "what the hell is his problem???" or would you stick your arm out too, and wave back??
The Nissan 300ZX owners have something called "The Flash" where they flash their lights at eachother if they see another Z on the road. Everytime I see a fiero on the road, I honk and wave. Almost every time it's another Fiero addict who loves the cars and wave back. The Fiero owners are definitely a unique people. I like it!

I think its cool that your cars are involved in this comraderie also... BUT WATCH FOR THE BACKLASH!!! The 'vette wave thing started way back before my time, and you should see how many people on the vette forum whine about: Cars with (insert factory engine) dont wave to us (insert other engine) people. Cars with (insert gender) don't wave to us (opposite gender). Cars from (insert model year) don't wave to us (other model) cars. And more...

Don't know why you wouldn't wave, it's not like you pass a million fiero owners on a drive to work.

I have mixed feelings about this. I own an aircooled VW, and everybody with one of those waves to each other. There aren't many of us, and almost all of us have the car because we want to, it's not a very practical car nowadays.
I wave to all the other Fiero owners when I see them (or honk, or whatever), but sometimes the other person doesn't. I think this is because they're using the car out of necessity rather than choice. Now that I think of it, all of the people that I ever see that don't wave usually have cars in crappy shape.
Another thing to mention is sometimes our cars are hard to spot oncoming. By the time you figure out it's not a firebird/camaro of the same era, it's already right in front of you. Like was said, it's not like you see a ton of Fieros around, so sometimes they sneak up on you

Hey Bryce! I kinda agree with you... By the time I spot another Fiero, and notice the driver waving, I already have passed them... I want to wave back, Oh boy! these drugs are really kicking in!!! OOPS! did I say that out loud?? Go vicodin! Kill that pain! Back on subjeck hope fully, I watn to wave but miss the opertunity tio do so... crash... glad I aint drivin!
usually its all motorcycle people wave to each other.
sometimes you dont get a wave back, its usually when they are not paying attention, or removing your hands from the grips would be unsafe and usually a nod is given.
with fieros, its probably harder. I met one guy who owned one, and he bought it because it was more of a transporation car then a hobby car. I mentioned i owned the 84 and he said yup the cars that started up on fire.
Motorcycles is a different breed of people in my opinion. They are more devoted to the hobby then most car owners, which is just a transporation vehicle.

I try to always wave, normally though I just get funny looks from the people around here. I will say there is a real nice 86 Gt that sits down the street. It's been repainted a real neat silver has a bra, I would just assume the owner take real good care of her. But anyway she always waves when we pass each other.
I've been known to turn around and go 5 miles out of my just to catch up to a Fiero and wave. Sometimes they wave back, sometimes we pull over and chat about the cars. vicoden: ain't it great!

Porsche owners are like that. When I had my 924 you would get the wave from other 944s. But according to the 911 people no REAL porsche had the engine in the front so they didn't even look at ya. This was pre boxster days. They actually accept that as a real porsche.
Just the other day I Chased an 88 GT for 30 minutes at about 80 mph thru the winding backroads in the mountains. It was a blast. When we got thru the pass, we both pulled over and looked over each others cars. Turns out she was driving the 88 that I almost bought a year ago Sure wish I had of. It is one sweet car.
I told her about the forum but she said she never gets online. She is too busy driving

I allways wave and honk at fieros! I've only had like one other fiero owner wave back at me. Most of them ignore me.
Somehow im almost allways in a different car when I see fieros. I still honk and wave but normally I just get ignored.
There seem to be two types of fiero owners. Those that love the cars, are addicted to them, often times they have/had more then one fiero. Then the other owners who just drive them because they have to, and hate the car.
I always try to wave to other Fiero owners... even if they don't notice me- I wave. I grew up in the country, and as kids we waved at anyone & everyone who drove by. Now I live in the suburbs and I'm lucky if my next-door-neighbor even acknowledge my existence. But yeah- I initiate the Fiero wave (or headlight wave ).

I always wave at Fieros and they usually wave back, or beat me to it! Now on the bike it's different. I wave at everyone but rarely get a wave back from certain American manufactured motorcycle owners. I guess its their "just too cool" ego or something. Kind of like the "Cars with (insert factory engine) dont wave to us (insert other engine) people" thing. I do get some satisfaction out of the FACT that NONE of them could ever beat my bike in the quarter mile. In my Fiero, I've even had people in Vette's wave....plastic car comrodory I think. That's pretty cool!

I wave, but rarely do the other Fiero drivers wave back, unless it's someone I know. A friend of mine had a Vette, and always waved, but like you said, depending on which Vette he was waving to, they may not wave back. Makes no sense to me. Why would I wave to a GT and not an SE Fiero? I know there are a lot of different Vettes, but to not wave cuz they have a different engine, etc. seems a bit snobbish. Hell, my friend's Vette was a 74 Stingray, L48. Not a super Vette, but as he put it, it was what he could afford, and it was a Vette, dammit! It also had the advantage of being pre-emissions. 'bout the only Vettes I feel sorry for are the late 70's 305 V8's, but those will be worth money some day, cuz no one's taking the time to save them now. And I'd still wave (if I were in a Vette).

Absolutely! I have found that 99% of all Fiero drivers will be waving madly anyways (we're a pretty happy bunch overall). I know what you're saying about selective waving from my motorcycle riding. Dependent upon what you ride will either solicit a wave or not from other cyclists - UNLESS you're in Daytona for Bike Week - then nobody wave at anyone because there's just too dang many!
I have been known to wave at Fieros when driving my wife's grandprix and confuse the heck out people. I guess it is just a habit that I can't break. I just wish I could get the wife to drive a Fiero that way I wouldn't have to worry about it.

I have a motorcycle and wave at everyother motorscycle owner out there. 99% of the time they wave back too no matter what kind of bike they have. I also wave to other Fiero owners and they usaually wave back. Sometimes other cars like vettes and porches will wave to me too because we both like fast nice cars. We take car of them and appreciate them.

I always wave and give a couple of taps on the horn. Fiero drivers recognize the sound. I have gotten waves from other cars as well. The best one was when I was driving on a backroad in the area. I ran into a sports car club cruise. Mostly MG's Triumphs, Fiats, and Alfa's. Not only did they wave but invited me along for the run. I had a great time and they all said nice things about my Fiero.

i've noticed something... everytime i wave to a gt or a coupe in good shape i get a wave back. i had an 85 gt basically ram through traffic to pull up along side me. was the coolest thing, gave me the thumbs up and we cruised along side each other for about a mile. i think fiero owners have a bond similar to motorcyclists, we know whats going on, while the rest of the world is clueless

When I owned my VW Bug(s), I waved at other Bugs and they waved back.
When I had my Suzuki Samurai, I waved at other Samurai and they waved back.
When I had my Kawasaki Concours, I waved, and they *always* waved back, if they didn't beat me to it.
I can't remember if other Fieros used to wave back, but nowadays, I stopped waving after I got 95 dumb looks for every 100 waves I offered.
I guess that means there are too dog-gone many Fieros in the hands of 'owners' rather than 'enthusiasts'... dang it.

I don't wave, I don't even think about it. I have a Harley and I wave at everyone who waves, same thing with my Wrangler, always wave when I'm waved too. I've had several vettes, some people waved others didn't. I think it's more a personality thing than a car one.
I've had people go so far as to wave me over and talk on the side of the road. Usually they're guys who want to talk about the body modifications I've done lately. I had one 70 year-old man in a mint 88GT with about 10K miles on it wave me down on Lake Shore Drive in Chicago. He said it was his "weekend" toy and that he drove a Lincoln Town Car the rest of the week.
Sure, I wave, flash lights, etc.. 9 times out of 10, the other Fiero driver waves back. There does seem to be a "brotherhood" attitude shared by Fiero owners.

My wife and I always wave at other Fieros, and they often wave back.
She once had one coming toward her that was almost a twin to hers (maroon 87 coupe). She waved, and the lady driving the other one gave her the finger!

I'll wave and honk and chase anything I think is neat, Fiero, Ferrari, younameit!
I do often find that when people wave at me, they are sometimes past by the time I am done shifting/realize it, etc.
I do get more wavebacks from people with nicer cars, (probally a direct result of them being more 'into' their cars) of any sort.
I always wave back, even if you're in a Civic, I'll just assume that your Fiero is down for repairs
Best! Ben.

I remember I was coming back from camping in Traverse City in my Fiero. Well I just got on the 131 South to haul ass home. Well about 15 minutes into it, I see way off in the disrtance a White Fastback. Well I am already doing 85-90 mph so I gain on it pretty quickly. So after about 5 minutes I am about to some to side to side to it and have prepared this big honking and waving commotion with my window down. And I look over, its this really fat, old, ugly, greasy looking woman in this sorta beat up GT that had to be filling every inch of the cockpit. She sort leared of over at me and gave me this snearing looking, so I just did the most respectable thing I could think of, look forward and drive on. I was quite dissapointed. It had me all excited too.
May be she was just jealous of my fine looking GT!

I would be so happy to see another Fiero I'm not sure what I would do if it ever happened. This is CA. Just about every car is here but I never see any other Fieros. I'd wave if it ever happens.

I don't bother anymore unless it looks to be in good condition. I used to wave at any Fiero that I'd see but would only get weird looks. Every once in a while, one will beep or wave and I'll wave back.
