Ok, why is it so hard to find wheels I want for my Formula! These are the two styles I really like so far:
The Konig only comes in 17x7" sizes, and I want 17x8 front and 17x9 rear. I emailed Speedline asking them about their wheels, and they haven't returned my email, so I don't even know if they make them in my size.
Anybody have any other suggestions? Two styling cues I'm looking for are the rivets along the edge of the rim and visible lug nuts. I don't really care for most wheel designs with a cover over the lug nuts. And I'd like to keep the weight as low as possible, but I'm realistic. I don't want to spend $500 per rim if I can help it.

There's not really much you can do to make up for offset of the wheel, you can only take away from it by adding spacers.
I don't think you'd notice that much difference between a 35 and a 40 mm offset. Seriously, think of how small 5 mm is. The only difference this will make is your wheels will be outwards 5 mm more (reworded, they will stick out 5 mm further from fender).
As far as trying to find 17x8 and 17x9, that's not a very standard size. 17x8 is, but not 17x9. I doubt there are many wheel companies out there that make this combination and are still affordable with a style that you want. It's all a matter of looking around until you find what you want, so good luck!

Try the www.tirerack.com they have a notchback Fiero model that you can put different style wheels on to see how they would look. I got my 17" x 7.5" Moda R6 wheels there. They came pre-balanced with new lug nuts and centercaps. I also got my 215/45ZR17 Sumitomos as part of the package. The whole thing came to $1330.52. I seem to recall that they have a style like you are looking for.

If you can find a very reputable wheel company or a good machinist company that can shave off on the 35 mm wheel it can be done. I used to have some OZ wheels that I have it shave down to at least 37 mm on my 88 Formula and it didnt look bad all.

Yeah, I really love the Konig Imagines in the Black Opal finish, but they only come in 17x7. The largest tire I can run on a 17x7" rim is a 225/45-17. What's the use if it's only 10mm wider than the stock size? I want to run at least 235s on the back, and if I can find 17x9's I'll be able to run 255/40-17's on the back. 225s are just too small to justify the expense of new wheels. Now, the 225/45-17 would work fine on the front, so I could get away with the 7" wide rim, but I want to run larger tires in the back.

Run 235/40/17 on the rear, it'll work fine. (215/45/17 front) 17x7 all around.
It may not be totally ideal, but unless you're running a heavily modified car, it will be PLENTY of tyre. (get GOOD tyres.)
Best! Ben

Well, 235/40's would still require a minimum 8" wide wheel. I could go wtih 235/45's on a 7.5" wide wheel, but I'd really like to get a wider wheel, even for those sizes. I found a Racing Hart wheel that's close to what I'm looking for, except for the covered lug nuts. I can get it in 17x9. Now all I have to do is brace myself for how much they're gonna cost.

I am running a 245/45/17 on the rear with 17x7.5 .40 offset wheels. The tire charts said this size is within the 7.5 in. wheel width limits. Any wider and you will have to go with at least 8 in wheels. My tires sit nice and flat across the tread on a 7.5 in wheel.

I Just installed Konig Monsoon on my 85gt the fronts are 17x7 rear 18x7.5. Tire size on front is 235 40ZR17's, rears 245 40ZR18's. They look really good on the car and clear everything.
