As some of you probably know, this winter im dropping a 3800 series II supercharged v6 in my car. I am wondering some of your preferences for a muffler that will give me an italian sound. I dont want it to rumble the ground, just scream. Im going to have 1 3" inlet and 2 2 1/2" outlets. what do you all recommend?

Zoomies out the decklid?
Italian engines have a different design philosophy than the 3800 so you may have to get creative...
Conventional wisdom sez flowmaster series 80 properly adapted to fit with some nice resonator tips.
Crazy people would do true duals with glasspacks.
Either way, all the competition will see is your exhaust tips (quickly receding) anyway!
Great project have fun!

Resonator tips and small diameter exhaust pipe. Larger daimeters make more rumble. Smaller makes the exhaust gases move faster and the resonator tips make the nice Italian sound. I have tried several things on my 88 Mera. I run a converter and dual resonator tips on 2" pipe. Sounds great. Only way to get better is to add more cylinders.

I think a Ferrari muffler would be best. Attatched to a Ferrari exhaust system. Attatched to a Ferrari engine under a Ferrari

Yes

A Ferrari's exhaust system is a specially designed and tuned instrument, every part is integral to the functioning of the whole.

I am trying to get as close as I can with the northstar engine (90degree crank, 4-valve V8) to an F355's posessed divine banshee wail! (180degree crank, 5-valve smaller-displacement V8.) We shal see how close I get.

I haven't yet decided on the mufflers I will use yet, however I will be using twin (and *UN* connected dual throught) stainless catalysts. Therefore the muffler will likely be fairly minimal (I like valve/intake noise accopmanied in proportion to exhaust noise though, so non-mufflers and the louder flowmasters won't do.

I am considering a SpinTech muffler. I like it's lack of specific self-resonance points (the engine should be doing the resonating, I want NO booming!)

I am also thinking seriously about buying a 355's exhaust from a ferrari club member who is upgrading to a Tubi system (wish I could afford one of those!!! oh BABY! I'm keeping my eye out for a used Tubi maybe off a 308/328 too.)

Hrm, not a terribly informative post. "I am working on it" though, feel free to email/PM me and we'll talk more :0)

Best!
Ben.
