Fiero model kits were made by 2 companies - MPC and Monogram. MPC either merged or was bought out by Ertl somewhere around 1986, so their name appears as MPC/Ertl on the later models. For reference, here are the kit numbers:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1984 Coupe - MPC #1-0883 - Box shows a red 2M4 with brown interior on the cover and exclaims "The hot new 2-seater sports car" on the top. The photo is of an actual Fiero. Molded in red, it includes a "complete set of optional custom body panels with air dam, and rear engine scoop." The strangest thing about this kit is that it has "1983" on the side, but is has a "detailed factory 4 or optional V-6 engine." The "optional V-6 engine" does not have the traditional "Fiero" intake manifold and is also carburated with a chrome air cleaner and valve covers. It was produced obviously in anticipation of the upcoming V-6 GT model, which was expected to appear in '85, but wasn't fuel injected yet in 1983.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1984 Coupe - MPC #1-0715 - Box shows a black 2M4 with a brown interior. Photo is an artist's rendition of the car, as many things are wrong with it. Cover states "Sleek new 2-seat sports car". Molded in black, it includes "eye-catching graphic decals," optional "racing-style body panels," and a "completely detailed interior". The photos of the car show a brown 3-spoke GT-style steering wheel, chrome *everything* on the engine, and side air scoops on the "stock" model.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1985 GT - Monogram #2242 - Box shows a red GT with aluminum wheels, aftermarket side scoops, sunroof, and an Indy air scoop. The photo is of the Fiero model. Molded in red, it states on the side of the box "Designed for the enthusiast, this unique, mid-engine sport coupe is performance oriented. In 1/24 scale, this model has fully detailed chassis with suspension, fuel-injected V-6 engine and 5-speed transaxle, aerodynamic body, and two-place interior." Strangest thing about this kit (and just about all of them) is that the model makers think our V-6 valve covers look better in chrome than painted.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1986 Coupe - MPC #6309 (Ertl stock #6309 replaces MPC stock #1-0778) - Box shows a hideous silver coupe on the cover with flared fenders, ugly "snorkel-type air scoop and rear wing spoiler", and racing wheels. Molded in silver, the kit can be built either with our without sunroof, and optional racing parts, which include the aforementioned body flares, front air dam, racing seats, and "colorful decals" - a red & blue Pegasus on the hood, with stripes on either side that go over the hood, roof, and trunk lid.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1986 GT - MPC/Ertl #6401 - Box shows a red GT with silver ground effects and a gray interior. Photo is of an actual Fiero. A "2 in 1" kit, which includes "custom wheels with wide racing tires" (they look like Corvette directional wheels) and "Recaro seats".
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1987 GT - MPC/Ertl #6227 - Box shows a black 1987 GT with silver ground effects on the cover. Photo is of the model. Another "2 in 1 kit", it comes with gigantically oversize tires, racing seats, and decals as it's "racing" version.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1988 GT - MPC/Ertl #6227 - Basically the same as the '87 GT kit. This kit *is* the same one that was created in 1987, but it has an additional "sleeve" around it that states "1988". Obviously it's not an '88, since it doesn't have the mono-tone colors and updated suspension.
