Back in '99 I replaced a rear caliper on my Formula with a rebuilt unit. When it arrived it was a cast iron POS and it never worked even straight out of the box. I finally broke down and ordered a pair of rebuilt rear calipers from AutoZone and they are aluminum. Not only are they aluminum, but they are complete. They come with the bridge, sliders, e-brake brakets, etc. All I need to do is slap the pins in place with the springs and pads, and they are ready to go. I had to transfer everything over to the cast-iron unit when it arrived. Plus, the sliders are in even better shape than the FS front remans I bought last year.
Best part is I got a complete pair of aluminum rear calipers for a beginning price of a little over $300, with $140 knocked off once I drop off the originals. My new SS brake lines should arrive tomorrow from FS.
Then to pick up where I left off on the suspension. All of this is in anticipation of the 2.8 I am rebuilding. I don't want to add up what this is costing me, I just did my first budget just for living/playing expenses and I am amazed how much I throw away every month on stuff that I don't "need."
Figure I should add "Fenco" is the brand that AZ carries for Fiero('88 anyway) rebuilt calipers. If they were cast, I would have refused them.
