Engine conversion was done in '93 by FieroMotorSports (Keith Huff)in California, along with Koni Suspension work. Purchased the car from owner in LA three years ago and drove back to Michigan. Since that time I've redone the interior (all new), dressed up the engine (some hp mods), and recently had the car painted (was black). Running 400 hp with Double Disc QuarterMaster Clutch setup.

Where you at the show yesterday? I didn't get there until pretty late and most of the cars were already gone. Well, talk to you late man. Glad you could make it here!

The paint is '98 Dodge Viper Yellow, the wing is available through IRM (International Research Motorsports, glass copy of metal unit used on Race Campaigned Fiero's by Pontiac long ago.
BTW- That Fiero is brilliant! He beat a Dodge Viper GTS-R(I think it was a 2000 Viper) up to 150MPH! And when you started her up, boy did she sound mean! Best looking Fiero I've seen yet!

Thanks to all for the compliments, really appreciate them!!! Very nice to hear from the people who have seen in shows earlier, and as they've noticed from these pictures it keeps changing with more improvements. Added the valve covers early this year, figured I'd take the $300 hit for them as I already had his other parts and/or same modifications. Pictures of interior below.

I don't know what the little smiley face is for <DROOL!>. That is a gorgeous car.
And it's always nice to have another Michigan member on the board. Don't know where you're from but if you're close to the Detroit area you should stop by the Michigan Fiero Club meetings. It would be nice to have another V8 show up.
Welcome!

Thanks, I live on the east side (Clinton Township) and don't venture over to the Farmington area very often. Don't know if I'm going to be able to make the Frankenmuth Show this weekend, trying to work it out.

Well I won't be able to make the show in Frankenmuth, but if you ever want to hook up for a beer or something, let me know - heck, I'd drive to the east side to see that car!
Did you have someone local do your paint? I've been looking for a good place...

The Car was painted by Lakeside Collision in Clinton Township (M-59 near Garfield). Dealt directly with owner, Mark Ott (also a car collector)and was treated very professional. The car was treated like a top grade show quality restoration (complete disassemble) and while I won't disclose the price, Mark charged me 1/3 of what other shops were asking to do the same job. His shop is very highly respected for top quality work.

Where did you get the carbon fiber panels for the interior? I've been looking at a few different places. Were they actual replacements or the stick on type?

The carbon fiber panels are from "The Fiero Store", the glove box piece was made special for me at the time, but may be available. They are real carbon fiber, stick on overlays, with a thick clearcoat. Don't know of anyone who makes actual panel replacements in carbon fiber. Tom
I must have more info on your dual-disc clutch setup, I have been thinking about a double or tripple disc for a long time (Northstar conversion) but I've been unable to reconcile the release actuation of the clutch itself. Are you using a hydraulic release bearing? (these integrate slave cylender, and eliminate arm and fork, into the bearing itself.)
What needed to be modified and/or fabricated?
Man, I would love to see your car someday, any plans to come to CA?
I gotta go now, must get the new pedals, vents, and battery on in time for the SF show tommorow ! :P)
Best!! Ben.

Missed Ya, drove the car back from LA 3 years ago.
The QuarterMaster Setup is a little tricky to describe without going into a whole lot of details. Basically it's a Titanium Housing which holds to 7.5 disc's (no springs in hubs), with a machined floater plate that rotated with housing attached to flywheel. Their pressure plate uses the same bolts that fix the housing to the flywheel. This is a "race clutch" setup (same a NASCAR I'm told) and you mustn't slip the clutch, as once you "glaze" the disc's, they're finished. The V8 conversion utilized the old Gary Zumalt Kit, from which this clutch setup was fabricated for. You can't get 3 Clutch Disks to package within the Fiero Trans bell housing, they tried and there wasn't enough room.
Note: I did remove .020 inch from flywheel side of QuarterMaster's Titanium Housing Ring to get just alittle more life out of the disc's (alittle tighter stack, when disc's are brand new the clutch engages when the pedal is about 1 inch off floor, disc's "seated" about 1.5 inch). This has worked real well and should get a minimum of 10,000 miles off these disc's (currently at 8,000 miles).
If you're planning on power over 300 HP, I would strongly recommend the QuarterMaster setup. If not there are other good options out there, just post messages telling what power plant you're planning on using and I'm sure the guy's running those engines can give you advice.
You can also contact QuarterMaster on their website. One other option would be to contact FOCOA (LA CA)and try to contact Keith Huff as he did the conversion on my car and was heavly involved with QuarterMaster on this setup. Keith told me that all the trans parts are stock Getrag, the clutch release bearing is the only part modified (very minor metal removal @ disc interface). Hope this helps you out. Tom

This engine was originally in a '91 Vette (350)and pulled out with 6,000 miles on it. It went through numerous performance modifications before being installed in the car in '93 (dyno'd 330 HP @ Tires). I'm the second owner of this car since conversion, don't have stats, as more improvement modifications were made to engine in the last 3 years. Based on claimed horsepower improvements of all the performance parts added, it should be over the 400 HP mark, and certainly feels like it.
The best place to start is with a new ZZ4 Crate Engine, as the prices have come down and it will save you considerable costly machine shop time re-doing a used engine. Read all the high performance articles you can find on the 350 and select your options for carb or fuel injection, etc, choosing bolt on parts carefully. I'm told Lingenfelter gets about $24,000 for a complete drop in engine, but he also sells parts (that's where I got mine), visit his web site.
