Just wondering how do-able a Honda VTEC engine swap into Fiero would be? Anyone know of anybody who has attepmted this? Just curious because I found a 97 4 banger Vtec running 175 rwh, custom built.

That woud be interesting. I was talking to Fieromaster about how we'd like to put a DSM motor in the Fiero. I'm sure you can do it. But the real question is, will it be worth it financially?

It's a small engine, you would need custom mounts for the engine, the transmission is the question I would have too, could you use the stock Fiero stick tranny or would you be forced to use the honda tranny (I would think the honda tranny would be it)
Size is not an issue, so moving around in there wouldn't be too bad, custom exhaust.... Anyone else have answers

A Honda tranny probally wouldn't be so bad I don't think. Except for the other issues with putting another tranny in the Fiero engine cradle setup. I wish I had the time to try somthing like this, but I'm usally too busy doing nothing all the time, so its hard to make time when you have "red-headed step children" wrecking your Fiero all the time.

Getting a shifter to the Honda stick shift could be fun. They don't use cables and the shifter "shaft" runs directly into the rear side of the transaxle. That would put it at the rear of the engine compartment in the Fiero. I vote for an Isuzu tranny with a 4.10 gearset and limited slip diff.

Dont honda engines turn backwards. Meaning that if you didnt use a honda tranny you would have 5 reverse gears and 1 foward gear.
If you were actually considering this the shifter linkage would be a stumbling block, but probably easier than figuring out the wiring. GM - Honda low tech - high tech I would think the physical aspects of the swap would be more straight foward than the electrical.

I have drivin in many Honda Vtec's (the 4cyl ones and the 3.2 v-6 vtec one) they are fun to drive and very fast but they dont have much torque at all, they dont pull until like 3000 rpm or so but from there them engines scream.... what would be fun is the new Vtec 3.2 they are in the Acuras they have some desent torque at any RPM pretty much

hondas are light. fieros are heavy. probably not worth doing. i burnt a 5.0 mustang yesterday. some kids thought they were bad. had to smoke the 5.0 with my 88GT with 3.4 engine. hope to put a turbo or nitro in the future. pat k

No no no, don't get me wrong. I don't really want a jap engine in there either. I was just curious if anyone had done it, and how hard it was. Heck if I did do it, it would be in my $100 84 w/o an engine. Reason I was interested was just because I drove my cousin's Prelude VTEC and that thing screams! I had it to 140, not working hard and still pedel to go, but I didn't have the guts to floor it, especially since I now know what can happen when you let others drive your car...damn red-headed step-children....

That's what I heard.
The transmission is on the wrong side of the car too.
