my wife told me the Egypt fire department has a fiero parked in their practice lot.

they get old cars and practice using the jaws of life, frame cutters, and sometimes they set them on fire to practice putting car fires out.

I couldnt believe someone would donate a Fiero to them to be baked - and started thinking maybe I can go rescue it - explain to them that Fieros are becoming collectors cars, that parts are getting harder to find, and that it would be a tragity to roast one for fireman training.

also started wondering what model it was - I want to get rid of the luggage rack on my rear deck and put the bigger spoiler on it. Maybe.....

Drove down to the the fire department lot. My wife was with me. She says "see there it is, parked out back"

The Fiero turned out to be a Nissan Pulsar.

Yeah! Torch it Baby!

My dad is a firefighter and he has told me that he's done that to cars many times. mostly, it is GM who donates prototype cars that they want destroyed. They'll take a forklift, stab them in the side, pick them up and drop them, roll them, run over them, bust them up, and then they'll break out the cutters and see how fast they can get into them. They dont set the cars on fire though, GM usually wants the parts back. One time, after they had destroyed a car, GM came back to them and said that some parts were missing. Apparantly, one of the firefighters thought it would be cool to steal a radio knob. GM took it back and didnt press charges.
