Has anyone tried the Popular Mechanics CD rom auto repair thingy? My local K Mart has them on sale for $14.00. I guess it allows you to access online repair manuals. One car type per CD. The GM one goes up to 87 and the next one starts at 88 up. I have an 86 and a 88 GT will I need to buy both CD's? What kind of feedback do you have this product? Should I just buy the factory repair manuals for the specific years?

I have a CD for '88 Jeep Cherokee. Based on that, I think the CD is good for access to service bulletins; however, for general repairs I prefer a service manual.

We had the entire series at my old high school shop. I can't remember much from it, but I do remember it being useful for some little things when I was helping some friends w/ their cars.

The PM CD is an ALLdata product. That said...

If you have one CD that covers both cars... You can unlock more than one car. They will however charge for it.

In your case you'll need both disks...

I've used ALLdata, I Have Not used the PM retail product. Overall I found the ALLdata info most usefull for the 87+ DIS 4 cyl. This motor is not covered at all in the Haynes book. The older 4 Cyl and the V6 systems are covered well in the retail service books.

The only other choice for the DIS motor is the GM/Helms shop book.
