I was going through West Coast Fiero's price list on their website and it blew my mind when I saw the prices they were asking for simple things used in the change over, every one has the right to a fair charge but to charge$215 for a oil cooler,$300 for rewiring the harness, hoses and clamps $250 that is too too expensive and this is from personal experience.I am doing a 4.9 cadillac V8 conversion with 345hp and Iam using basic parts from Summit and Jegs racing and my oil cooler is way cheaper, hoses and clamps way less than$250 may be that is california prices not east coast just my take on this and no hard feelings.

Sorry to get right off the thread topic but how are boosting the power of the 4.9. That is the most power I have heard from that engine. I am considering putting one of those in my car. Are you taking pics of your progress and if so would you please share them with the forum. Thanks

I think the price point will be determined by how much hassle you are willing to put up with. I am the same way when it comes to some things - I would definitely engineer some of that stuff myself. A remote oil cooler is not a biggie, nor would the battery relocation. BUT, on the other hand, I would probably just buy some of the mounts, the re-drilled flywheel, and other difficult trial & error crap to avoid many hours tooling & fitting and big $$$ in new shop equipment to create myself.

I've made the same observation about WC. Pricey. But, if they sell stuff, then why not I guess. Personally, in my business I try to price things in the middle someplace, so I get more business, and can in the long run profit more, instead of trying to retire on a single sale. There are few vendors on here who in my opinion are raping people with their prices. But again, as long as there's someone willing to pay the price, there will be those who'll charge it. It's perceived value. I don't have a great deal of surplus cash around. So if I need a mount or something, and a place wants 100 bucks for it, I'll make it first, since I can take that 100 bucks and buy something I can't make. But if a guy has more cash, it's worth it to him to just buy the part, regardless of price.
Anyone with enough money can buy a nice car...

That sounds nice)

Northstars rock IMO they are the perfect engine for the Fiero Light weight and great power 300hp stock with the option of turbos and nitrus. With Nitro and turbo's you can git 550hp NP.

The only prob I'v encounterd is the auto trans its great for a Auto but I think most of us want manual /shrug

the cooler is so priced this way because it is NOT a standard air cooler, it is a water over oil cooler, similar to that used in marine products. As far as the wiring, well - if you choose to purchase the full compliment of factory service manuals ( $100+ each ), more then likely you will need all three to four copies, then all the material ( wiring, heat shrink, convoluted wire wrap, soderless connectors, crimping tools ) then the equipment neccassary ( ohmeter, curcuit tester, etc. ) then have the endless ammounts of time to lay everything on the floor and begin surgery then go ahead - id like to see what you would sell it for in the end, NO HARD FEELINGS

$300 is not a bad price for the wiring conversion considering the time it takes and the knowledge and information required. As for the oil cooler, since the engine is already equipped to use one, all you need is the heat exchanger of your choice and enough hose/tubing to reach it. I don't think a water over oil cooler is necesary nor beneficial.

345 hp 4.9? NOS? That doesn't sound very reliable. You'd better order a few more of those Felpro head sets to go with your blue bottle. Good luck, and let us know how it works.

Eric,

Does your $300 price include everything to make the fuel injection work? I've head horror stories regarding motor limping along because the computer can no longer "see" the items eliminated when the 4.9 was placed into the Fiero engine bay.

I've been studying this motor and plan on using it in a future project but was hesitant to just "chucking" the fuel injection for throttle body injection as others have recommended.

Roy

I dont know about the other things but I can comment on the wiring harness. I know someone that tried to do it for a 3800 and it was such a pain in the butt they gladly paid WCF to do it for them.

It is nice that we can agree and disagree without fighting and feed off each other's knowledge of the fiero gang,I guess the reason why it sound that high to me is that I do all my work by my self not that I am cheap but I have an inquisitive mind always wanting to prove it can work,it must work and gonna work so if some one is not mechanically inclined more power then Chris is your man.Ihave had this motor in this car for about a month now still trying to perfect and have it working to my satisfaction the engine was improved on and have had 4 test run with various power level 50 to 125 and every thing held up so far no leaks and the feel is out of this world and downright scary when you compare the car to the 2.8 till the 4.9 but for those who can bear with the hassle of this conversion it is worth every dime and will have fun just like the Corvettes and Viper guys and the feeling of pride when you pull up to the light and see people looking over at you thumbs up.

Bluemajic,

BREATH... take in a long cleansing breath... hold it... now let it out slowly... There. Feel better? You may need to cut down on your caffeine intake a little, too.

You must have written the above note after the 125 NOS shot while your adrenal glands were still pumping. That was quite a two sentence paragraph.

Kidding... sounds like you've got nice setup. I'm jealous.
