I am working on the car today, and have decided to put in my switches today. I want to have manual control of my rad. cooling fan, and another switch for manual control of the engine bay cooling fan. I don't think it will be possible to have a setup where I can contol both manually, and seperatly, while still haveing them come on with the fan switch can I? I am thinking I want to disconnect the engine bay cooling fan and run it entirely manual, (probally just leave it on all the time except winter months), and then have manual control of the rad. fan while it will still come on when the fan switch on the block activates it.

So, my questions:

1) Where is the best location to tap into the wires to activate the rad fan? What color is it? Is it grounded when the fan switch closes?

2) Essentially, the same as above, but about the engine bay cooling fan. Which wire needs to be cut and tapped to activate it? I need to also disconnect it from the fan switch circut, so which wire controls it and where is it?

It can't be done when you have neon on the car. Especially in the interior...

Sean, take the same power source that the fans relays already use (from the front). Run a wire to your (single) switch and then back. Use the proper size diode inline and then you will have a manual switch that uses the relays, is fused and controls both. I think that most likely if you need to run them, you will need both unless you have aftermarket exhaust creating excessive heat back there. GL

Radiator fan is EASY. Under dash, driver side, there is a square plastic "block" in the wall with lots of wires running through the wall. There will be a green/white stripe wire. Splice into it, connect it to a switch lead, the other to a ground.

Check http://www.michiganfieroclub.org for more detailed directions. All you need is on there. I have a switch on both of my cars, very nice to have.

Since my car doesn't have a engine bay fan, I dont know but what fiero56 said about the rad fan I have done, it is rather easy. I put the switch where the remote unlocky thing for the trunk is, however I am gonna move it to where the window buttons should be on the console or elsewhere.. as soon as I decide where I want all my switches to be

Ok, good. What Im actually going to do is wire up a relay system for the switches, so they complete a 12+ circut. My logic for doing this is because the switchs are illuminated and I want that to work, so they have to be switching a 12+ circut to run their illumination. I am just going to tap into the wire under the steering colum, and ground it when I want the fan on, I think. I am going to have the relay setup so that the coil is grounded, common is grounded, and N/C is not used. Then, when I switch 12+ power to the relay via the switch, the coil will have power and switch continuity between the ground and the fan swich (hooked to N/O lead) if you know about relay's, let me know if I'm thinking right about this. I will just completly disconnect the engine bay cooling fan and run it entirely off a seperate switch since technially the car will run ok without it obviously, so if I accidently forget to turn it on its no biggie. Thanks
