I just got it back on Friday, I gave it a bath on Saturday and drove it nearly ALL day today . Too much fun!

How can ANYONE argue the notchback looks better than this?!

The paint on the car looks fantastic!

This photo is sort of crappy, but if you look closely you can see my new Fiero GT decal and CD player...

Josh

IMO, The 88 Fiero's are just so much more fun <stock> than all the other years!

Wow, did you get it back from a garage or from getting a beautiful paint job. I have a red 88 GT too. It looks great!

Sad story this...
Some girl pulled out in front of me on New Years Day and wrecked this PERFECT (never-wrecked) car. For the last three months it's been in the shop (almost all body panels in front of the windshield had to be replaced). Believe it or not, the stock paintjob looked even better than the new one. Looking at the car, you'll never be able to tell it was wrecked, but unfortunately, because of one IDIOT teenage driver, it was.... oh, it makes me mad!

Bummer! My red 88 GT T-Top is going to the body shop in two weeks. Just freshening up 13 year old paint. One fender was repainted before I owned it and it shows how much the color had darkened. I hope mine will look as good as yours.

thanks alot! My dad bought the car new in '87 and drove it 60,000 miles back and forth from Charleston (where he used to work). Then, around 1992, he put it in the garage and it was driven about once a month up until last year when he gave it to me, and some girl pulls out in front of me <sigh>.

What a beauty! I read on another thread you might replace your 88 Gt seats with Mr. Mikes. If yours are gray and you are interested in selling them let me know.
P.S. You replied to my thread, wondering why it's on the second page it's all that testosterone out there. Nice talking to ya.

sorry Veronica, if I did a switch to leather, I'd definitely be keeping the stock seats, if only for resale value alone. But have you seen the stock 88 seats? I really think that the previous owner did you a favor . Seriously, I've sometimes considered swapping the map pockets and "glove compartment" for the nicer, cloth pre-88 counterparts.

Some other ideas of mine for this car:

1) give the car gold ground effects to match the gold wheels (I.E. pre-88 GTs w/grey wheels and ground effects)... I really don't think I'll do this but I thought it would be sorta unique.

2) Putting some 17" tires and five-spoke chrome wheels... the chances of doing this are nearly 100%, I've definitely got the money!

3) Turbocharging... I plan to have this done by the end of the summer

4)T-Tops... Right after I get done installing the turbocharger I'm going to start saving up for these

5) Remove the Spoiler... I've thought alot about this because I think the fiero looks a lot more exotic (fastback) w/o the spoiler, I think my chances of doing this are about 40%

There's alot more minor mods I'm thinking of too, like power pulleys and such.

Josh

No, I didn't consider gold wheels because I have grey interior. I like gold wheels with tan interior.

I took that into consideration as well since I have grey interior (and had black wheels), however, I found that if you saw my car in motion, in looked like I had hubcaps, and that was VERY unimpressive.

No they had a gold pinstrip. That is definitely going away. It doesn't look all that bad but it is not for me.

I'm not big on the pin stripe either...I think they take away from the lines of a car. Not even the pinstripe can take away from the beauty of a fastback!

Mine's an automatic, too. I really want a 5-speed but I guess I'll just have to settle for the turbo-charger going in it this summer .

Not that I really want to see carnage, but did you take any pictures of it right after the accident?

Wow a turbo, now I am jealous. I was amazed with the performance results of just porting the manifolds and removing the cat did. I would love to drive one with a turbo. Have you had a chance to drive one with a turbo yet? I would prefer the 5 speed too but it was hard enough to find a good 88 GT T-Top which was my first priority.

$200?!?! Wow! My cd-player cost more than that! Skitime, do you have any pics of your 88 GT w/ the t-tops off? Especially a side view? I just started thinking about it and I've never seen a t-top fiero with the t-tops off.

Josh

I need to get rid of my formula and get another GT.. just seeing all yours makes me realize I need another .

I will gladly trade the one on the right for your Formula. Hehe. I will even deliver it. I dragged that car home on a tow strap figuring it would be a parts car. The interior cleaned up so nice and I was able to get the engine running. I bought it without being able to start the engine. The idiots had the distributor in 180 degrees off and wires in the wrong order. Now I figured I have another project. The borrowed camera is recharging but I will try to get pictures with the tops off.

well, if you deliver it...

How many miles does that car have on it (the 86 (87?) GT)?

Its a late 86. 90,600 miles. Only power windows and a rear defroster as well as the sunroof as options. Tan interior, perfect carpet, good dash and interior parts except the drivers seat which I am replacing with the tan pigskin leather seats. Cracked drivers quarter panel. By luck, I am replacing the nose, bumper, and rocker panels on my red 88 because I want them to be perfect (They only have a few flex cracks) and that is the exact body parts this 86 needs. So I will swap them over to the 86. Spray some paint and abra cadabra a sweet 86 GT. Unless offers come up or something else comes up.

not sure on the cost of the paint job but it really didn't get a NEW paint job so to speak. The only parts that were painted were the new body panels but I do know that the cost to fix the car (total) was dangerously close to the value of the car (somewhere around $6,000).

Josh

BTW, is the 86 a manual or an auto, and how does it drive?

Just wanted to add that the original paint was so good on the car that they didn't even have to match the paint with the new paint job.

The 86 automatic drives fine and brakes seem good too. I haven't had all the wheels off yet. I only got it last Saturday. Here are pics with the tops off.
