Heat causes the NO2 to expand thereby (that doesn't look like it's spelled right) increasing the pressure. That's my theory and I'm sticking to it. BTW--We've seen those pics before. Just as nasty now as it was then. Good thing it was a ricermobile instead of a Fiero.
In my sandbuggy days I saw some waterpumpers with NOS, and one guy had his bottle in an ice chest with holes cut in it for the lines (he siliconed around them). And it wasn't just to keep it out of the sun - he actually put ice in there. That's where I heard about chilling them. I know nuthin else about the subjeck.

it so it doesnt freeze like a propane tank when you use it. When it the pressure starts lowering in the bottle it gets cold. and the pressure drops. The same way as the tank on an air compressor gets hot. When you compress a gas the temperature increses. Thats also why the need for intercooler.

ouch, that will be hard to evplain to the insurance company, and if you heat the bottle it will give you a constant pressure in the bottle. One less variable to deal with.
Ok you bums.. Let me explain.. The Maxima is a GREAT car... Much better quality than the Fiero (I'm going to get the beats for that one, aren't I?).. I'm not saying they are better than the Fiero, just that they are real good cars..

You say that thing is much better quality then the Fiero, and then you say "I'm not saying they are better than the Fiero, just that they are real good cars"? What with that? Any brand spankin new car is better quality then our 15 year old cars, but its up to the owner if they remain good quality. Obviously Nitrous would be a no. My Fiero has been more reliable then most all the other cars in the same time frame. Never owned an import so I cant speak first hand, but Fieros were, and still are very good quality cars and always will be.

I believe bottle heaters are used to raise and keep the nitrous at a constant pressure. The heater NOS sells keeps the bottle at 85*, I think. Mostly to keep performance constant in varying weather conditions. If I remember right, the safety valve on that guy's bottle failed, and that was the result. Cheever, I'd have to guess that the guy you saw kept his bottle in an ice chest to stop it from blowing like the Maxima if he was going to be out in the Texas heat all day.

you are suposed to keep your nitrous at 800-900psi for optimum performance.. weither you need to heat it or chiil it is ambient air temp and bottle volume dependant. this not so bright guy left his bottle heater on. your suposed to wire it in to the ign. switch and have anonther switch from there to the bottle. but of course it's not his fault. it's a shame he has to point the finger at the maker of the kit, when it was his own neglegence. just my $.02 .

I had the valve turned off, and accidently (which means I didn't know it was turned "on" for you educated folks) turned the bottle heater on when working on cars computer in passenger compartment of cars interior.
Educated folks?
I'm glad nobody got hurt either, but sheesh, come on.

Obviously, the owner wasn't in the car when it "went off". (Apparently, he is still with us.) If the heater had been wired through the ignition switch, it probably wouldn't have happened, at all. Unless he just left the key on and walked away. (Yeah, I've done that. But never for an extended period.)

RaeQwan, yes the Maxima is a grocery-getter, but for when that gallon of milk, absolutely, positively has to be there asap, there's nothing like a Maxima on nitrous to deliver the goods!
Monkeyman, yes, these pictures have appeared on the Fiero Forum before, but they are CLASSICS.
