Alright sports fans, as the post by JMW asked, I too have been wondering just how many of our lil' cars have "assumed room temperature", and have come up with some interesting numbers. A little while back, a good fiero buddy sent me some info on his state's cars. I'm not going to name names, but he sent me the list for ALL the fieros which were registered in his state in 1998. WOW doesn't do it justice to me, in this one email my friend DOUBLED my database project, which seeks to document the fate of EVERY 1988 Fiero. Well, here are some numbers: This state had 1250 1988 Fieros registered in 1998, and had 7562 '84-'88 Fieros registered. Based on the population of that state and the nation at that time, that means that, on a national basis, there are 17,100 1988 Fieros still registered, and 103,700 1984-1987 Fieros still registered, approximately. Approximately? Well, this assumes the following: the distribution of Fieros between states is proportional to population, the number of Fieros outside the US is a relatively small number (well, quite a few in Canada, maybe Mexico and Europe and Down Under too, but not too terribly many probably), and that there aren't a lot of cars which haven't been registered and are still around (oooh, this one's tough, because while there's sure to be some show cars and cars in peoples yards up on blocks, there's also a bunch in junkyards-for now). If we take all these assumptions, and just say that the numbers above represent the vast majority of cars which are still intact or likely to be intact in the near future, then we see that, for the '88s, about 65% of them are still around, and for the '84-'88s, about 30% are still around. All together, this says that about 33% of all Fieros made are still around, in an "alive" condition (i.e.registered in the US). I'd say this is probably "light" by no more than 10% (still, thats 38,000 cars), but it seems like a reasonable figure to me, if a somewhat sad and shocking one. The more info we have, the better, so if you're sitting on info like my friend had, please send it in and we'll refine the numbers. Also, if you have info on any 1988, please send it to me for the 1988 Fiero Database Project. We've got 2399 cars right now, looking for number 2400...and 2401... and etc.
Thanks,

Very interesting info. I was just going to post something about the surprising number of Fieros at my place of employment. I work in a building with about 400 employees total. This morning in my 86SE, I followed an 87GT into the parking lot, thus making 5 Fieros in the parking lot. I think that is pretty amazing considering the estimate of 38,000 of these things left. I was thinking that we could have a daily Fiero car show at work.
Man, it sounds like you are on the right track! But I see so few Fieros that it worries me. Here's something I considered making into another topic: excuse me if I'm naive, as I haven't been a Fiero owner for quite a year yet and don't know if it's been tried... brace yourself cause I like to think BIG... but hey kids let's build a Fiero Museum! Okay there's the idea, now I'll sit back and wait for responses. I only have an hour left here but I'll check back again about 8 (central) Saturday night. Of course you can email me too.

Hey John, I have #2400 and 2401! I told you back in April at Ed's I have lots of '88 VINS. Well, here are two. You already have the VIN for my Formula. Here are more.
1G2PE1190JP21232- This is a bright red '88 Formula I see everyday in Dayton, OH. It has the 5-band equalizer radio, 5-speed, plain roof, and don't remember the power options. It is in perfect shape, and the lady who owns it bought it new. It is her daily driver. Also has FOCOA sticker in the rear window, but she is not actively involved with Fieros.
1G2PE1190JP210162- This is the VIN from the front fascia on my '88 Formula. I bought my Formula in '98, and noticed several months ago, that the VIN on the front fascia does not match the VIN for my car. Receipts I have look like the acciden't my car was involved with took place back in '92, so the Fiero the front fascia came from is probably a gonner. Hope these help. I will try to dig up my paper with VINs on it. Drew

There were a LOT of Fiero's sold in Canada. Let's see.. about an hour and a half away, is the town/city of Nanaimo (Vancouver Island). The last recorded population census places the town in the range of 73,000 people, which was more than 6 years ago, so to be fair, given the local grown the town could be in the range of 85,000 now. Anyhow, there are Fieros ALL OVER this town, I see them whenever I happen to drive down there, there are no fewer than 10 up to the occasional 20-30 for sale in the local BuySellTrade from that area (as well as others). Anyway, that's just one small area, the largest City on the Island is around 550,000 people, and the lower-mainland is in the range of 2 million. I see them anyitme I've passed through cities in the interior, and every major centre I've stopped in. In the next province over, there are 2 cities of just over a million, and a huge number of large towns. Fiero's Fiero's Fiero's.. You don't always see them, but you can usually bump into somebody who knows somebody who has one.
In the last year or so I've also noticed that a large number of Fieros in towns closer to the border were bought in the US and brought to Canada.

Shadow, Hey, that's good to know, glad to hear there are plenty up there. I'll have to revise my guesstimate somehow, but at least I know where Fiero Heaven is now. It's in Canada, and they don't have to die to get there! PJ, thanks for three more, sounds like you've got one lightweight GT there. Flea, also good to get another FL car, Thanks! Songman, good work on the Coupe, are you going to the "Run For the Hills Event" in Murphy two weeks from now? AkursedX, Red Tan Gold, sounds good, Many Thanks. Fiero56, Bring 'em on, Baby, and we'll add them in, thanks for the help! ur2biteme, I'd like to do all years, but boy howdy I'm up against the wall as it is only doing the '88s. I like all year Fieros, and have an 85SE loaned out to a family member, but honestly, so many early cars are already gone (see the original estimates in the beginning of all this) that I feel like there's no way I can get even a good start at documenting them. I am afraid that of the estimated 8000 '88s already off the road, I will only get info on a few hundred of them, leaving many unknowns.
Thanks to everyone for their help. I've said it before and will again, I can't do this without y'alls help! I always promise to send out emails with summaries of cars to people who contribute, so please bear with me while I try to find the time to enter data everyday and email everybody, oh and to do work too!

I have three white Fiero's parked in my driveway during the summer.
i bought my '84 SC auto. back in the fall of '83. It has been though every Vermont winter...348K with original exhaust, tranny and motor...(the engine was replaced in 86 during a recall). Ol reliable is now semi-retired and it still looks and runs great.
My present daily driver is an 85 SE that I purchased from the original owner in the fall of 98 with only 24k. It still has the original tires! I put on steel wheels and snowtires for winter driving though...
The summer car is a loaded '86GT. It is about to turn 100k, it will tomorrow morning on the way to work...Has been a very reliable car! Wish i could go to the show in Ma this weekend. Wedding is geting in the way of going to that.

I know this thread is getting old, but add another 88 to the list for me!
Just bought an 88 Formula this weekend and I love it... still a little tranny problem but the V6 is great!
VIN#-1G2PE1194JP202775
Red Formula, V6, 5 speed, Tan Interior. All original so far, but plan to add some of the mods I have found here, like the slimline headlights, sequential tail lights, etc...
